    New flintlock rifle build

Here is update #1 to the Lehigh inspired rifle build. In this video I'll be getting the barrel into the stock. I'll also discuss sharpening and stropping chisels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrxZ7sBn67w

    Buck & Ball Loads

Ok. Thanks for the replies in both threads. I was surprised to see that 00 buck is too big for 20 ga buck and ball loads. Luckily my gun doesn't know this. So they have worked fine for me. But, now that I know, I'll look for #2 buck shot. For what it is worth I did use the search function...

    Buck & Ball Loads

When you do buck and ball loads do you load the round ball on top of the buckshot, or do you load the buckshot on top of the round ball? I have always loaded the buckshot first under the theory that the heavier ball would disrupt the shot pattern if it blew through the shot.

    Dixons gun fair

I had a great time. I got to see lots of old friends, and I also met quite a few magazine readers and video viewers. If you were one of them, thanks for taking the time to say, "Hi." I really enjoy meeting everyone. Knowing someone likes what you're putting out there makes it so much more fun...

    Getting Rid of Flinter's Flinch

Back in 1978, after shooting a percussion rifle during my college years, I built my first flintlock. I flinched the first shot out of that so badly, I have no idea where it came down...hope I didn't kill anyone. I cured my flinch in one day by going to the range and shooting the rifle off of a...

White Lightning touch hole liner & fouling

I'm pretty new to using White Lightning touch hole liners, and I have a problem with mine getting packed with fouling. I like to run a wet patch followed by a couple of dry patches after every shot. Today, after a few shots, the gun wouldn't go off. I pricked the vent hole and even poked...

This video provides the answer. I’m going to build a Lehigh County inspired flintlock...

Red Jacket Muzzleloading's Christian Springs Rifle

I had an opportunity to shoot a beautiful custom flintlock longrifle from Red Jacket Muzzleloading in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This rifle is made in the Christian Springs school of gun making, so it is an early, 1750 to 1770 style rifle. The 38-inch, .58 caliber, swamped rifle barrel is very...

First attempt at customizing a powder horn

I decided to take one of my plain powder horns and gussy it up a bit. I have never tried any horn work or scrimshaw before, and it shows. If you learn from your mistakes, I did a lot of learning during this project. Here's what the horn originally looked like: And here is the final product...

    My Griswold and Gunnison Revolver

This is the full-length version of my Griswold and Gunnison revolver story. The G&G revolver was one of the guns that came out of the Confederate States attempts to jump-start a homegrown arms program during the Civil War. The Griswold was essentially a copy of the Colt 1851 Navy revolver...

Shooting the Pedersoli flintlock Kentucky pistol kit

I hear you Don. That was a filming session where I tried to do too much...trying to make up for all the lost range days due to bad weather. By the time I got to the pistol I had already been at the range for six hours. I just ran out of time before I could do all the scenes that I'd wanted to.

Shooting the Pedersoli flintlock Kentucky pistol kit

In this video I'll shoot the flintlock pistol I built using Pedersoli's Kentucky pistol kit. This is a .45 caliber muzzleloading pistol. I bought the kit from Dixie Gunworks. If you are interested in watching me build this pistol, check out this playlist...

Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair

The Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair is one of the biggest reenacting/living history events of its kind in the eastern U.S.. Last week I was camping at the 2014 version of the event, and I'd like to share some of the goings on in this video. This was the 20th annual Market Fair at Fort...
