Anyone have Bobby Hoyt make a barrel?

My Brooks Carolina Gun has a 47+ inch long barrel made by Bob. Looks to be well made, no issues here, go for it. If Mike Brooks uses them you know they are top notch.

    Squirrel rifle options

I have owned a .32 .36 and .40 caliber. I still own the .36 caliber. In my opinion you should be going for head shots regardless of the caliber. A .32 .36 or .40 in the body will for all intent and purposes cause the same damage from my experiences. I'd go with option two. As for why I kept...

    TVM Grand

Appreciate the closeup shots. Nicely executed, you got a beauty there and I'm sure it will shoot as good as it looks.

    Patch Cutting

Not what your looking for, but I just cut what I need with a sharp scissor when I need it prior to a shoot or hunt. Plan on shooting 25 rounds this weekend so I'll cut 25 patches on Friday while watching TV.

    Problem with Coned barrel

SR James...Do yourself a favor and call Joe Woods and order his tool. Takes a little time but it's easy and flawless. What I see in your pic I would not consider a "cone". As others have mentioned mine go down at least 1.5 inches. I cone mine a little more than Joe recommends in his...

    Problem with Coned barrel

I've coned three barrels using Joe Woods tools. One of the rifles accuracy clearly was improved, the other two no change, just easier to load. I'll never own another muzzle-loading rifle without a coned barrel. If the proper tool was used I don't see how it can be the coning from my experiences.

    Is brake cleaner too harsh?

Use non-chlorinated brake cleaner and you'll be just fine. Does remove all the oils from the metal so if you use it to clean a dirty gun, you must oil the metal before putting it away. I use it on new guns that are packed with cosmoline grease.

    Patriot Pistols

Nice pistols. Regarding the cracked stock, they have a history of stocks cracking just as you described, design flaw I'm told so go easy on the .45 hunting loads or the other one will eventually crack.

    Leaving it Loaded

I load mine at the beginning of the season and it stays loaded right up to the end if I don't get a shot, never a problem. Once loaded it never comes in the house, stays in the shed.

    Barrel oil

Any synthetic gun oil will work just fine. I use Bore-Stores gun socks for all my weapons. They are inexpensive and impregnated with a rust preventer and moisture inhibitor. Highly recommend.

    Powder Inc.

When I use up my 4F I'm switching to 3F for prime and when my 2F is gone I'll be using 3F for everything. Keeping it simple...

    .32 Caliber CVA Squirrel Rifle

Got her this afternoon. Looks like it was never shot. After reading a post above about fit I was a little worried but she shoulders just fine, close my eyes, shoulder and open, sights are lined up perfect. Hoping to have it sighted in Saturday morning early then take her for a walk in the...

Tough day at the range, some questions

Goex is just fine and it's easy to find. Either 2F or 3F works fine in a .50 caliber but I would go with 3F it burns a bit cleaner and hotter. Start with 70 grains and work up to 100 and see what groups best. As stated above you don't need a fancy cleaning kit. I never use a brush don't need...

Tough day at the range, some questions

Just my opinion but loose the 777 and go with BP. It cleans just as easy and is much more reliable and consistent. Loose the musket caps and go with #11 caps. I spit patch 99% of the time and typically don't swab the bore until I shoot about 5 to 6 rounds with no loose of accuracy or ease of...

    .32 Caliber CVA Squirrel Rifle

Isn't that always the case. I went all flintlock a few years back, last caplock to go was my .36 Seneca. Wish I still had it... :shake: I'm looking to keep this little squirrel rifle when it comes in. Sometimes it's nice to have a very light, very compact rifle when walking the squirrel...
