    Possible gunpowder related tragedy

Why do they (Lyman and others) continue to make and sell brass drop tubes specifically designed for loading black? Also, in gunpowder (black and smokeless) manufacturing plants they use brass tools and containers. As well, BP powder measures, flask spouts, etc. are in large part made from...

Just a matter of where you want to allot the time, at home or at the range.

    Possible gunpowder related tragedy

Sorry for your loss. I hope your friend fully recovers. Powder storage, properly done is really only an issue immediately after an incident when a fire is started. If it is stored properly, away from the loading bench itself in a steel cabinet designed not to hold pressure (so as to forestall...

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Don't know if it's helpful or not but I have been getting regular emails from Graf and Sons, Natchez Shooting Sports and Midsouth Shooting Supplies, running free hazmat and/or shipping of late. I do business with all three regularly and they are good to go. Don't know what they have right now...

    Percussion gun identification

IIRC Turner Kirkland/Dixie Gun Works imported a fair number of these Belgian shotguns in the 60s and 70s, so that may account for the thicker barrel, being of more modern manufacture.

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Yes. IIRC the first time I saw this technique described, years ago, it had nothing to do with shortages and was aimed at hunting in wet weather.

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Oh yeah, definitely. The reason they don't work on some revolvers is simply sticking out too far in one with a cylinder with tight tolerances no being able to rotate. I think pistol primers are probably hotter than regular caps, and if not (which I doubt you will see), there are magnum small...

Small pistol primers as percussion caps?

Clear PVC tube of the type used for aquarium pumps friction fit over nipples cut just long enough to secure a primer. Not all revolvers may have enough clearance, but for rifles shotguns and single shot pistols, they will work. You can get 10 feet at Home Depot for less than $10, enough to...

Flintlock or percussion for a first purchase?

Yes, as a practical matter the supply issue would dictate my choice. If caps are spotty then Flintlock, as you won't need them If real black powder is short, then caplock if caps are around, as a flintlock will not work with substitutes for holy black. If neither is available or both can be...

Is My Bird Gun A Deer Gun?

Shotguns have killed a lot of deer, some places even limit deer hunting to shotguns. I often loaded a barrel of my CVA 12 with a ball when seasons overlapped. Hard to beat the flexibility of a SXS shotgun. You do have to pick your shots and keep the ranges down (hunting not shooting becomes...

    God Bless You All.

Appreciate the sentiment. Those folks have had it pretty tough with more on the way tonight Likely not many will see it in this forum (some will) You might try the non-muzzleloading forum in the "premium members" section. It gets a bit more traffic.
