How you fill your pan makes no difference ...

I switched over to 3f years ago. I found out that I could get more shots out of a can of 3f as opposed to a can of 2f. Plus l didn’t have to fool with a pan primer and 4f. Over the years I have found that 3f does very well in the barrel and pan , the KISS principle.

    "Restoring" a basket case original.

Congratulations on your work on that old rifle. You bought it and made it what you wanted it to be. I wouldn't be bothered by those who don't like what you did. You took a piece of junk and made it useable again.

40 or 45 cal. roundball rifle

Why does everybody think that anything other then a 32 or 36 too large for squirrels? When I first started in this endeavor all I had was a 50 cal. and never blew up any squirrels. Before PA changed the law I loaded for deer in the early muzzleloader season, and if I saw a squirrel that I...

    Problems With "New" Pedersoli Shotgun

    Good news....

Brit I grew up in the part of New Jersey that produced a lot of people that preferred to skirt the law. Unfortunately I learned how to be devious at an early age. At 79 years old I just can't seem to break that train of thought when I feel that the politicians are trying to stick it to me!

Finally Tried Paper Cartridges in smoothbore......

I use the French style paper cartridge. I found it on the net. I believe that it was also referred to as a Pickering type. I did not tie off the ball and I lubed the ball end of the cartridge. Got up to 15 shots before any resistance was felt. Got a 4 to 5 inch group at 5 yds. measured.

SOLD Like NEW Ultra Hi .69 Cal Flintlock Pistol

Had one of these years ago. Tried to take it apart and found out that the breech plug wouldn't come out. The tang was tack welded onto the breech plug. I wouldn't shoot it because of the breech plug. I couldn't find out if it was threaded or just forced in, there were no signs of it being...

New Curley Maple stock having shallow cracks - What to do?

I drilled a hole in the end of a crack , epoxied it in the hole on my grandfather's 1929 Ithica 12 ga. double about 60 years ago. My son still uses it. The crack is in the wrist. Can't imagine how many times it has been shot, and it is still solid.

    Dangerous Situation

Once I have the load I want I use a 3/8 diameter drill and put it in my brass measure and wrap some masking tape around it at the top of the measure. I then drill whatever am going to use for my measure until the tape touches the top. I fill it with powder and then dump the powder back into the...

    Richard London 41

I would load it with a proof load and fire it with a loooong string from behind a very fat tree. If it blows up at least you will be safe.

    20 Gauge Barrel

There are quite a few Mossberg 20GA. barrels for sale on the popular selling site. The longest I've seen is 28" . How hard would it be to turn this into a muzzleloader barrel.

    Welding

For thin stuff i use a HF 90 amp fluxcore machine on low. The only problem with it is the feed mechanism sux. I bought a 3 in. C clamp which can apply more pressure to the feed mechanism which makes it feed much smoother.

    New fusil?

I remember reading how to jug choke a barrel. First you need an inside barrel caliper, sold by Brownell's. Then you need a barrel hone. Honing the major diameter is easy, the trick is to get the proper angle from the barrel to the major diameter. Then from the major diameter back to the muzzle...

    Percussion caps coming back?

I remember reading a story in either Muzzleloader or Muzzleblasts about BP hunting in China. They used a smoothbore and used a coke bottle top to measure out their powder and shot. To prime they used BP in some plastic. the only problem was that they didn't explain how they managed how to keep...

Montana muzzleloading season, blaze orange, camouflage

I have sat in the deer woods with camo orange coat and pants, had deer look at me from about 15 feet and never noticed me unless I moved. If someone told me they took a sound shot I would have to "box" their ears!
