Both Smokeless and Black Powder are hot enough to turn the surface of the bore red upon ignition lol. Last I checked, the temp required to turn steel red is waayyy above the melting point of the plastic lol. How far can You shoot ?
I don't shoot at running animals unless they're within 30 yards, there's too much risk of not getting the lead right and wounding them, in my opinion. Material for over powder wads
look at a product you buy in a cardboard box frequently, and cut bore-sized circles out of that. The main thing an over-powder card/wad does is keep the bullet and it's grease off the powder (and allows yo to swab the barrel after powder's loaded to keep the fouling out of the breech)...- Wildrangeringreen

printer paper with a permanent marker circle on it. I use 36" rosin paper for regulating doubles and patterning scatterguns. There's a difference between safe/functional and ideal. The courser granulations take a little longer to be consumed, and are able to maintain peak pressures a little longer. That means you can (theoretically) get more velocity out of a course granulation than fine, if loaded to the same peak...- Wildrangeringreen

What are your specific offhand shooting exercises if you do any?
Calisthenics (you military people know and "love" it as PT) does you a lot of good over-all, and they're cheap (just your body weight). I like tubular steel, particularly if you use a muzzle protector with it. Keeps the weight down, while being very strong.
