Yeah I hear you. I could do the octagon milling in my CNC mill. It isn't a very large machine so to do a 30" barrel I would have to do it in two sections. Drilling the hole is the most time consuming. I built a cutter here awhile back for an electric motor shop to bore out rotors for large electric motors. I just purchased a TC Renegade from a gentleman on here. I find it to be a very handy rifle to carry around. It is a flintlock 50 cal model. What brands would you not recommend and why?
I kind of like cheaper rifles and pistols as I am starting out with muzzle loaders and cap/ball pistols. It forces me to figure out the workings of all of it to repair and tweak things as needed to function properly. Then when I finally make up my mind what kit to build I will be ready!- dylan84

I guess you could put a slow burn fuse on your hammer and have a revolver matchlock. Then chain fires would no longer be a mystery. :D I just stocked up on everything to make my own powder. So far it is shooting really well and always have 1F to 4FFFF in stock! -

I saw that the gated kits from Kirst are on sale right now for the '60 for $350. I am torn between having a bigger case to stuff full of black powder (45 Colt) or load smokeless in 45 ACP. I have a ridiculous amount of 45 ACP brass and very little 45 Colt. Also looks like Colt brass is hard... -

Those conversion cylinders caught my eye. Are they picky with case trim length? I would imagine they would need taper crimped and fairly uniform to function reliably.
