    Barrel Tenon Problem

I wouldn't use shim stock unless it could be soldered to the tenon/underlug. TOTW, and MBS have underlugs in both blank and slotted, for flat surfaces and round. Mine are just snug in the dovetails, but then staked and soldered.

    Alaska?

The TSA guidelines do not specifically prohibit ammunition loaded with blackpowder, nor does specify that a firearm is also required to carry ammunition. Further, it does not specify that a firearm and ammunition must match. A hunter could be carrying ammuntion to be used in the guides gun, or...

    Alaska?

You can't fly with a can or horn of blackpowder, correct? You CAN fly with ammunition in checked luggage,. I would pour my BP into cartridge cases, plug the ends with wax, and take them as "ammunition". I'm reading that the maximum "ammunition" that can be carried (per passenger) is 11#...

    Tungsten matrix?

Kent indicates their "tungsten matrix" is tungsten powder in polymer and safe in older barrels with fixed chokes.

SOLD Exquisite Early Virginia .45 Longrifle

Its an early Lancaster pattern, carved with Isaac Haines' "signature" 3 interlocking scrolls. The hardware and both toe and forestock moldings are Lancaster charateristics.

.45 caliber RB enough for deer?

Some of us hunt where deer and bear seasons overlap, so my preference is for more than the minimum required by the state.

    Rescued a abused 1858 Remington

I've shot RBs and Lyman 450229 hollow-based conicals from my Uberti 1858 and saw no difference in accuracy over full charges of Swiss fffg. The conical was 25-30gr heavier the RB and shot to the same POI at 25 yards.

    was there a "transitional Rifle"

Rich, All I can say is that is one of those mystery guns. I see the fan or shell behind the tang, but the stock architecture seems wrong for "Berks" as does the buttplate and trigger guard. The lack of carving behind the cheekpiece, and no beavertails seems more like 1820, but the mass of...

    was there a "transitional Rifle"

It helps to live in an area where there are local and regional shows, and belonging to an organization like the Kentucky Rifle Association enables a member to view and handle these at the annual meeting. Some shows are by membership or invitation only, others are open to the public. There is a...

    was there a "transitional Rifle"

I won't disagree that there were lots of fowlers in the colonies, but the longrifle was the product of mostly of German and Swiss immigrants. Regardless of barrel length, the chunky buttstocks and sliding wooden patchboxes evolved into the slender rifle with brass patchbox that was mostly seen...

    Pecatonica River guns

I'm working on one of their pre-carves that was supplied with barrel, lock, and DST that has been on the back burner for about 5 years. I have no complaints about the barrel inlet, lock inlet, and its looking like my front lock screw will miss the ramrod channel. I wish I hadn't had...
