FOR SALE Who Needs A Summer Project Gun?

I bought this thing at a gun show years ago with the intention of installing a breech plug and playing around with it. But it seems I’ll never get around to doing anything with it. I think it was Snyder breech loader that had the breech cut off. It’s a smooth bore around .72 - .75 diameter. The...

FOR SALE Powder Flasks & Ball Bag

These have been sitting in my closet untouched for the last few years. I may as well get them to someone who will use them. Besides, I need the room. :D

    Hawken peep sight help

Mine has a spring loaded detent ball as referred to by Rifleman1776. Perhaps the ball on yours is stuck in its channel and not engaging the detent.

Isn't a Renegade with a GM barrel is a Gemearade?

    Homemade jag

This is what worked for me in a 12 GA. I suspect a 3/4" PVC fitting would work for larger bores. https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/a-handy-12-gauge-cleaning-rod.110386/

What's your favorite sight in target

No doubt about it Jack, shooting steel is a kick. And more satisfying than pie and ice cream. But one thing about paper is you can record load data and save it for future reference. The more guns you have the more useful that becomes (and I have way more guns than my wife thinks necessary - or...

What's your favorite sight in target

I sight in at 75 yards using a 6 o'clock hold on a 3" bull, using the target below. I have this target as a MS Word document and as a .jpg file. It prints on standard 8.5 x 11" paper. I can send you the file(s) as an email attachment upon request. Print a master out on your home printer. Then...

    Minnie bullets in .58 caliber

Lee makes a ".575" Minnie mold that has a wide flat nose and a thick skirt that should be just the ticket. With pure soft lead, mine produces bullets that range between .578 and .580. https://leeprecision.com/bullet-casting/black-powder-molds/black-powder-minie-bullet-molds

    Make Friends With A Roofer

Besides usually being pretty nice guys, they remove a lot of old soft lead roof jacks and will probably give you some. Then, after a few hours of dirty nasty smelly work, you can have a nice supply of 1½ lb. nice clean ingots.

    GOEX vs. Swiss

    GOEX vs. Swiss

Interesting Tom A Hawk. Were you shooting the same volume load of each? Do you recall what the volume was?

    GOEX vs. Swiss

I wondered about that first target also Barry. Unfortunately I didn't track the shots to match them with the chronograph readings. Like you, I suspect the low hit was the first shot, and the lower velocity a result of some residual oil in the bore.

    GOEX vs. Swiss

I understand that cannonball. The main purpose of the experiment was to see what the velocity differences would be with the same weight charges. The other info was collected because it was available. Actually, I was somewhat surprised there was only a 7/8" difference between the largest and...

    GOEX vs. Swiss

There's a back story on that smo. The gun was sighted in to be 1" high at 100 yards with 85 grains GOEX FFg and that bullet. That first target was pretty much what I expected. But when I shot the first shot on the second target with 85 grains Swiss FFg, the bullet went two inches over the top of...

    GOEX vs. Swiss

I’ve always been a GOEX guy. I hardly ever shoot any of the black powder subs. Also, I’ve never tried Swiss black powder even though I’ve seen numerous reports that it produces better accuracy, is cleaner burning and load for load yields higher and more consistent velocities than GOEX. So after...

    Numrich Arms Underhammer

Don't know the thread size for sure GRIZ. Just looking at it I would guess 1/4x24. Your best bet is to take the breech to a hardware store and try different bolts to see what fits.

    Numrich Arms Underhammer

That hole is for a really neat peep sight that was available from H&A. I wish they were still available. I could use about a half dozen of them.
