    Uberti 1860 Colt Question

Not an Uberti, but a brand new Pietta 1860 (My first C&B) and it shoots stupid high. At 10 feet, I had to aim a solid 6" low to bust clays. Very fun to shoot otherwise. I am going to get it to shoot POA by front sight or rear notch modification (have not decided yet). I even loaded 35 grains...

    First BP revolver

I looked at some shoulder stock pictures, and it appears that they are indeed cutouts for the shoulder stock...but they don't follow the lines of the brass "wrist" on the stock. This revolver lacks the receptacle on the base of the grip though.

    First BP revolver

Yep. All blued steel. I noticed these 2 relief cuts on the frame (towards the bottom of the hemisphere "lump")and about 1/2" directly up from the trigger pin screw and can't figure out the reason for them?

    First BP revolver

Pietta .44 1860 "London" with steel frame and TG. My first BP Revolver. Super quality arm. Fit and finish is excellent. I shot a BP revolver many years ago, and it was a bucket. I test fired caps only, and the 11's worked fine, just had to pinch them a tad. I ordered SS #11 nipples from TOTW...

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

I gotta' ask..............how do you deal with that thing? My .36 looks tiny, and I went to a brass ramrod after the wood article gave up the ghost pronto.

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

I own just about every caliber sans the .32, and the .40 is the sweetheart size IMO. Just enough to kill something bigger than 5 pounds, and with light loads has virtually zero recoil. Talk about deadly accurate.

    loads for 58 cal

Thanks. I lived in "Squarebanks" and Seward for years. I only got Moose and Bou. Went bear hunting but no such luck (thank goodness, what would I do after I killed one 6 miles in?) My daily carry was a 4" barrel Colt Anaconda in .44mag I now live in California, and on occasion will kick...

    pan powder amounts

This is kinda funny running into this post. I learned how to prime my pan from this very forum when I joined some years ago. 1/3 pan to the "outside" is what was considered the proper way. Fast forward- I just got back into the forum after years off from participation, and the "proper" way is...

    loads for 58 cal

You don't mess around! With a name like "Brownbear" it does make sense  I normally shoot 70 of 2FG for range work, and shoot 100 for hunting. I went past 100 and didn't have the gut feeling I was adding anything to the mix. I will admit that with my .58 I have no real world feedback...

    New .40 test shoot

Just put another 12 through it after moving the front sight a teeny bit. I will fine tune the sights after I get more rounds through it. I am going to brown it now. Brand new barrel with 36 shots. It is cutting patches, but I better leave well enough alone.

    A Second Montana Hawken

I could be wrong............. I don't think any of those arms are "real". I agree with the above post.

    Gun Kits, ADifferent Twist

"Kits" won't die out. I am willing to bet most guys don't buy the whole kit initially, but purchase the components one by one. They still end up with all the parts listed in the kit, but start with the stock or the lock for example. As long as we can pretend we only spent a "couple hundred...

    New .40 test shoot

Test shoot of my newest build before I brown the barrel and sights. Happy and a little puzzled! It is a percussion (Siler) quickie build using some old parts and a TOTW Southern Mtn. stock. Nothing changed between the 2 groups. I will chalk it up to a new gun. I fired 24 rounds without a...

weather proofness of various wood finishes

I also use the LMF sealer followed by BLO. I go for the low sheen/dull finish. I am a spearfisherman, and use LMF on my spearguns I build. Since I am a freediver, my guns are in salt water for 2-4 hours at a time all year long. They are then soaked in fresh water and subsequently rinsed...

    Regarding DOM/Seamless Barrels...

This current "smoothbore" craze......... This is the year 2011, you can get a real, honest to God barrel at the drop of a hat, either by purchasing, or making your own if you have the tools. Barrels with correct historical profiles, made by folks that do it every day are shockingly...

    Ramrod choice question

Holy smokes! You too! Last batch of Hickory rammers from TOTW yielded but 2 serviceable rods. They all just snapped with maybe a 15-20 degree "test bend". I could plainly see multiple sections of grain "runout". Even the ones that passed muster were less than ideal. I had none of these issues...

    Should I get a .32 or .36 for Jackrabits?

Being that the lead sphere is an exponential cat...............the 32 or the 36 is a real valid question IMO! The 36 is a little guy, and the 32 is even smaller. The Jacks we have around these parts will start scooting at the drop of a hat, and my current 36 just can't keep up. I am currently...
