New .40 test shoot

Test shoot of my newest build before I brown the barrel and sights.

Happy and a little puzzled! It is a percussion (Siler) quickie build using some old parts and a TOTW Southern Mtn. stock.

Nothing changed between the 2 groups. I will chalk it up to a new gun. I fired 24 rounds without a hitch, and only swabbed once in the process. The balls rammed home with ease the entire time. The BP residue was pretty heavy, but it loaded fine...what a nice change.

I could start them with my thumb, and didn't expect too much accuracy wise, but this GM barrel shoots great IMO.

Probably just changed the way you were holding your gun or the way you were looking through the sights. Non the less looking good.

I would caution that two or three shots don't really constitute a 'group;' i'd go with the traditional five or more for a really good idea of where the rifle shoots, but as I said, it's an excellent beginning and when the barrel settles in, you should have a real tack driver. (I assume that this is a new barrel.)

Just put another 12 through it after moving the front sight a teeny bit. I will fine tune the sights after I get more rounds through it. I am going to brown it now.


Brand new barrel with 36 shots. It is cutting patches, but I better leave well enough alone.
