    leather canteens

I was asked how do I make my leather canteens. I start with 12 to 14 ounce leather ( usually a 1/2 side of cow leather), then cut out two exact pieces that match and have been designed to hold about 500 to 750 ML of water when done. I then use rubber cement on the edges to glue the two pieces...

    Hawken 54 Calibur

Thank you all, I offered $300.00 for it as it has never been used, and he felt it was to much, so he included some black powder, balls and patches. I feel it was a fair price , and he is a good friend of mine. I look forward to trying it out.TraderLee

    Hawken 54 Calibur

Sorry, I gave incorrect info. I am looking at it now, and it says on the barrel, Thompson Center Arms, and underneath, it says Rochester, New Hampshire, and after this in bigger engraving Cal 54. Does this help?

    Hawken 54 Calibur

I use only 50 calibur but have been approached by an elderly friend who has a 54 Calibur Hawken made in the USA, and never been fired. He has had it for about 30 years. My dilema? What is a fair price to offer him without taking advantage of him for this black powder rifle. Many thanks to...

    looking for a pattern

Don't mean to ruffle any feathers here, but I have been hand sewing for the last 10 years. I just put a leather fringed frontier shirt on ebay if you would like to see it., but I am excitied about the lace one for Boy Scouts, who can do it and have a nice shirt in two days. I will post a...

information for CVA 50 caliber, barrel made in USA

You are right. It has four screws, and I have yet to fire it but will this weeekend. What attrracted me to this gun was the blonde stock, and the octagonal barrel was clean, inside and out. I figured the set screw problem was the fact that the washers were missing. Thank you for yor...

information for CVA 50 caliber, barrel made in USA

I just purchased a CVA 50 caliber rifle with a barrel made in USA. It has a serial number on it, which is 0012278. The stock is blonde in color, so it is not walnut. It is missing it looks like two brass washers that hold the lock on it. Barrel is 32 inches long. Any background info would...

    looking for a pattern

I have seen a leather frontier shirt that did not use a sewing machine or any artificial sinew to put it together, rather it used leather lace, and all done by punching holes every half inch and then lacing it together. Anyone know where I can find a pattern that only uses leather lace, and not...

Well, I have a weekend again to use the outdoors, and would like to take my Hawkins 50 calibur, (made in Italy)flintlock with me. but in experimenting and finally learning to use real blackpowder and not that synthetic stuff, I need a new piece of flint, or several for that matter. The piece...

Thanks to all for the suggestions on my flintlock

Traderlee here, with the new flintlock I was asking about a a couple of weeks ago. I switched powder, using real blackpowder,(Elephant Brand)instead of pyrodex and wow, what a difference. Fired the first click, and I wore out my only piece of flint. Now all I need to know is where to get some...

Flintlock won't ignite powder in barrel

It was brand new, so I didn't clean it, just fired one shot and that was with a long delay, though it has been explained to me why that happened, using Pyrodex instead of the real thing. It also took a lot of pushing to get the .495 ball past the opening of the barrell, but once past the ram...

Flintlock won't ignite powder in barrel

All good information. I will put it to use, and try again. I really would like to get as proficient with the flintlock as the percussion. The percussion seems like a piece of cake compared to the flintlock.

Flintlock won't ignite powder in barrel

Pyrodex P The FFG Equivalent. I will get some real black powder, and try that and let everyone know what happened. As I mentioned, we took out the vent hole plug and ignited the powder, and it was loaded with powder as it all went out the side. We poured more powder in, and packed and...

Flintlock won't ignite powder in barrel

I spend the day blackpowder shooting, and had no problem with my percussion. I bought a new Hawkins 50 calibur flintlock, reproduction, made in Italy, and after reading about how to shoot them, loaded, put powder in the frizzle, cocked it, and after a delay, the rifle fired. (I was surpirised...
