I built a sort of mortar once and usually shot 2 1/2 inch cans of chicken noodle soup out of it. I would measure the powder in an old 35mm film container. T/C Bore Butter?
I don't use it as a lube, but after cleaning I coat the bore good and give the whole firearm a light coat over it. It has worked good for me in this respect for many years. Before shooting, I run a couple patches up and down the bore and fire a couple caps to clear the fire channel. Never have...- Stony Broke

Anyone ever experienced burning embers in your barrel after a shot?
The fella that actually got me started into muzzleloading was at a rendezvous once and when loading his flinter while he was standing on the shooting line, it went off. Possibles bag and caps when hunting
I've never had a problem with a possibles bag in the woods, but I have occasionally used a small belt bag I made years ago, and it works just fine as well. I would think a guy could swing a possible bag over onto his back if he wanted to crawl through brush, but it's never been a problem for me...- Stony Broke

I'd have to go with the Hawken. Yes they made a bunch of them, but that was because they were in such demand. Thompson made a large number of other models, but the Hawken was by far the most sought after. It was a well made rifle and very versatile in that it came in both flint and percussion...- Stony Broke

How much Gun for Big Game? or How Little!
I've dropped both deer and hogs with a .62 caliber I have.....but I only use a PRB and 70 Gr. of 3f in it. I've never even tried the 100 Gr. + loads out of it.- Stony Broke

Need some ball loads for 40cal per rifle
One of my favorite .40's that I use for matches has a Rice barrel and I have used .395 with a wet lube and a .015 patch for years with it, along with .40 Gr 3F. Won a lot of ribbons with it over the years...- Stony Broke

How long do you let your powder sit in the bore between sits?
I've left a rifle loaded clear through the deer season, with no worries about powder in it. The only thing I do, is remove the cap, and I put a little piece of leather over the nipple and lower the hammer when I'm ready to go home. Always fired with no problems...- Stony Broke

The Big .58?
I just recently sold an Investarms Hawken, which is basically the same thing as the cabellas in .58. I hunted hogs with it and it did a great job using a prb. At my age, I'm lowering my gun inventory some, but there was nothing wrong with the .58 and I wouldn't be afraid to go after any game in...- Stony Broke
