I'm stuck and it's stuck in barrel

You can generally use another brush of a smaller size and just shove it in alongside the stuck one. It will pull the other one out.....

    Casting round ball

I always liked to do my casting in the garage. I'd open the big door and get it all set up near there.....with a fan behind me to send the fumes out the door.

    Hello from Texas!

Check out the Dallas Muzzleloaders Club....lots of good guys. They have a monthly shoot down near Tool, a monthly meeting in Dallas, Rendezvous......

    Problems with "Bore Butter"

I can see where a lot of different lubes could aide towards having a smoldering patch out in the grass in front of you. I've never had that problem, but I have seen guys that did. I've even been in the middle of a bunch of guys at a match stomping out a fire about 20 feet in front of the line. I...

    Problems with "Bore Butter"

I've used it for a lot of years, but I don't lube patches with it. After cleaning the gun, I swab the barrel out with it and leave a good amount to protect the bore and then I give the rest of the rifle a wipe down with it as well. It always seemed to protect the finish on the wood as well as...

    Moose jerky

Ground up is a lot easier to prepare and easier to eat when it's done. You do use a sort of caulking gun type of apparatus .....just squeeze it out onto the dehydrator and let it sit there for 6 to 8 hours and its a done deal.

    Moose jerky

I have to agree with andy52, I like salt, pepper and sometimes a little jalapeno. I grind mine up and mix it....then let it sit in the fridge for overnight. I then put it into a jerky gun and spread it out into the dehydrator. I've made it this way for a lot of years and end up having to give a...

    Half **** issue

I've had to remove wood from under locks several times with similar problems. There are numerous things you can put on the metal to tell where it is contacting the wood. Sometimes just a piece of paper put to fit inside will show indentations from having the lock put into place over it.

    T/C Seneca & Cherokee history

Years ago my wife decided she wanted to start shooting matches alongside me. I found her a Seneca and had to shorten the buttstock some for her short arms. She did very good with it, but eventually developed back problems and had to quit. I gave the rifle to our club to use at the Rendezvous to...

    Peep/globe combo for hunting?

I think you will be really surprised at the precision you can get out of it. You might be happier with a different front sight to go with it also.....

    Victoria Tx area ?

Never have run into any groups of muzzle loader shooters that weren't a good bunch of guys !! I have attended matches when I couldn't shoot, but still had a good time just conversing with the other guys. There are some really friendly folks in those clubs !!

    Peep/globe combo for hunting?

I have a Hawken with a Lyman rear peep and a globe front, and I don't think I could shoot more accurately with any other MZ I own !! I've tried all kinds of sights over the years for hunting and matches, and this combo has turned out to be the best for either task. I guess some folks have better...

    TC Barrels from Sharon?

I have a Sharon barrel a friend gave me once, along with a full length stock. I dropped them off at another friends house one day...that does some beautiful gun building and asked him to make me a full stock Hawken out of it. I still couldn't tell you what the twist rate is, but it's a .50 cal...

    Brown, blue, or naturally aged?

I have to agree with my liking of the browned finish. It is the easiest finish to keep up and takes very little attention to keep it looking good !

    Flintlocks and Black Powder

I was taught different methods, and they seem to work for me....but lots of us use different methods and they work for us. I was taught to put the priming powder on the side away from the touch hole, so the flash would ignite the main charge, instead of it working like a fuse to start the main...

    Casting Issue

Does appear that the lead is cooling too fast in the mold....so either the mold isn't hot enough or the lead is going into the mold too slow and cooling on the way. I think if you were to turn up the heat, it might solve your problem. If you get them too hot, they will appear to frost....and if...

Wow...that almost does look like you could shoot another one with it !! Must have not hit any large bones.....

    New shooter!

I wish someone had gifted me something like that at his age. I have owned a lot of TC's over the years and they all have served me well. I have some very nice custom built rifles, but I think I could probably start over with a rifle like that young man has and be quite happy. My TC's have always...

    Blanket shoot

I've seen some amazing blanket shoots items. A few guys will try to not put much on the blanket, but a lot of folks will go overboard and put items up that are way over the price range. Blanket shoots can be very interesting !!

Anyone here shoot 25 yard offhand match's?

I can certainly relate to oldwood's post as it relates to ball size and competition. I shot matches with a .40 for years and I'm still very fond of that caliber, but for some instances a larger ball just does the job better for you. When shooting in a rendezvous you're usually better off...
