Stuck ball in a Thompson Center Hawken flint

I always carried a co2 tool in my shooting kit to the matches, until it finally just got worn out. I never used it myself, but a lot of other guys borrowed it once they all knew I had one. I even had one guy give me a 20.00 bill once to bump up my supply of co2 cartridges for the guys.....and...

    The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium

I'm so happy to see everyone being treated so good by them. I always liked Joe and Suzi and they treated me good....and I'm so pleased to see everyone else happy with them too.

    Cold weather patch lube.

Frontier mink oil patch lube has worked well for me in cold weather too.

    The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium

I think years ago they would furnish the parts, and had guys that would build your gun in different places. Doc White I think used to be one of their builders. You would get your gun delivered to you, without knowing who built it normally. They use good parts and old Joe would require their...

    Question on cutting a barrel.

I have a friend that builds rifles and he stays backed up a couple years as locals love his work. He once told me that he has to check out a new barrel and figure out which end is the closest to center, to figure out which end to use for the muzzle. I guess a lot of barrels center better on one...

    The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium

I still shoot a .40 pistol they built for me probably close to 30 years ago and it still does fine. The only problem I ever had with them was a Hawken they had a guy build for me. He opened the barrel channel up too wide and then epoxied the barrel in place. I talked to Joe and he didn't...

    .50 Calber for Elk?

I've taken a lot of game with muzzle loaders, but last year I had one that really flustered me with my .50 and a prb. It was a nice buck that came out in front of me within about 25 yards and had no idea I was there. I took my time and shot him in the normal area I use....no way I could have...

    Dangerous Situation

A bunch of us are going to be checking their measures out....no idea something like this could happen. If I dig around in my stuff, I probably have at least half a dozen different measures and I've never heard of something like this happening with one. Thank you very much for the heads up here !!

    Looking for some guidance here

I've always preferred to brown them instead of bluing. The browning procedure is pretty easy to do and the finish is easy to keep up afterward compared to a blued barrel.

Info about this type of belt pouch

I've seen a lot more of those type of bags with no loops on the back. I think a lot more of them were just worn wrapped around the belt and used for lighter stuff, like tobacco, edible stuff, wasp nest for wadding, dry stuff for fire starting and a lot of other possibilities.

    Cold weather patch lube.

I've used both the Bore Butter and Mink Oil as well and they did the job just fine. I think between the two, the Mink Oil is probably the better choice though as it doesn't seem to get solidified quite as much as the Bore Butter.

    Cold weather patch lube.

When I hunt in really cold weather, I like to use my regular lube which is just a mix of Murphys and Windex. When shooting matches, I just drop the prb on top of the powder, step forward and shoot it....but when hunting where it will be loaded longer, I always use something between the patch and...

    New W.B. Selb Hawken

REALLY nice looking rifle !! I have always been a Hawkins fan....and that sure looks like a keeper !!

    Carbines

I've owned rifles in a lot of different barrel lengths. I've shortened barrels up to 24 inches and they still shot pretty good, but the sight differences do make them harder to shoot as good. The longer distances between front and rear sights can make a big difference in how a rifle shoots. I...

    Another Unusual Gun

Wow.....after all the years I have been playing with muzzle loaders this is something I have never seen before. Could you give us a quick description of how those systems operated ?

    Lyman GPR front sight

I set up one rifle with a Lyman peep rear and the Lyman globe peep on the front. I don't think I've ever owned a more accurate set of sights. Use use the front by holding at 6:00, so you don't conceal any of your target with the front sight. I use it for target shooting, and set up the way it...

    Spit Patch

I have used the same mix for a lot of years, and use it to clean the guns too. I take a medium size bottle of Windex and add a cup of Murphys to it.
