    Spit Patch

I've had some of it before, but gave it away and never bothered to try it. I like something I can reproduce with a good solvent and some lube in it. Buying something like that.....I would be afraid to get another bottle and hope it was all the same. I'm not a spit patch fan anyway, but at least...

    Johnson County Wyoming

You should be able to just about shoot a ball in any direction there and end up with at least an antelope. Welcome to the forum.....loads of good info here !!

lead hardness of patched round balls

I had a good supply of linotype bars at one time and used them to cast modern bullets. I even used soft lead for that kind of bullets, but I would add tin and linotype to it to harden up things. For a round ball, a guy just wants the softest lead you can find, so it will follow the rifling in...

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

Sorry if my ideas are different than yours !!! Shooting black unmentionables, I made up a tube to blow down those barrels to get moisture in them and I'm sure it did some good, but no way they could have had embers in them. I guess my hard headedness must work against my shooting and I would...

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

When it comes to blowing down a barrel, I just think of blowing on an ember to get it hotter. I would worry that an ember sitting down there could become hotter and then you pour powder on top of it.

I've nailed deer with my .62 caliber smoothbore, using a prb. with no problems.

    20 Gauge Plastic Wads?

I have loaded plastic wads many years ago, using lighter loads....I even used some for trap shooting. I was always worried about the plastic sitting atop black powder, so I would always use something between them. I have used thick paper wads, but I also think I would be more inclined to use...

    .50 Calber for Elk?

I wouldn't be a bit afraid of using a .50 for elk....a guy just has to have good control of his firearm and be able to control where his bullet hits. I wouldn't be shooting a rb at 100 yds or more at an elk, but up to 50 yards with good placement there is no reason why it wouldn't do it's job...

    competition shooters

Nope...I watch one guy shooting an inline pistol and shoots a possible quite often with it. Not my favorite to compete with, but I don't make the rules. Revolvers can be about anything that is percussion.

    .50 Calber for Elk?

I have to agree with Old Hawkeye as far as bullets go for an elk. I have shot a number of deer and feral hogs with RB's, but not at long distances. Using a .50 Caliber I would opt for a conical to get better penetration and be better prepared for the differences that can happen with the hunt.

    competition shooters

Shooting a revolver with the Dallas Muzzleloaders you can just shoot alongside the guys with single shot pistols. They are allowed to compete against each.....but I don't think I have ever seen a revolver outshoot a single shot in a match.

    Ball slipping patch

Some molds will leave a little higher sprue than others, but it's probably a good idea to go ahead and leave the sprue facing forward. I have one mold that you can hardly see the sprue on the ball, but I still stick that portion of the ball forward.....takes very little effort and you know you...

You have some very good suggestions here and following them will put you on the right track. This man has his muzzleloading techniques together and I can't argue with any of them !

    In Praise of the Hawken

There are just so many different rifle models out there, but in the end if I were to be stuck with just one gun....it would be a Hawken. I've owned a bunch of them over the years and still have a full stock one that's super accurate...but heavy. If I were to be stuck with just one rifle, I think...

    TC Peep sight

I think it's really hard to beat the Lyman 57 for a peep sight. I put one on a GM barrel...on a TC Hawken, and I can't imagine anything that would shoot better. I've been shooting matches for many years, and that is probably the most accurate combo I've ever tried.

    Thread Adapter Kit

Over the years I've accumulated all kinds of things like those adapters and lots of tools that I've never used. I have a fairly large range box, and like to just be prepared for anything that sneaks up on me. I had c02 dischargers for years that only got used on other guys guns at the...

    BOY IS IT STUCK!

I've had brushes get stuck and come apart in the bore, but always found they were easy to get out. I just grab something like a .30 caliber brush and push it down next to the stuck one. It will come out just fine and bring the bad one out with it.
