A friend gave a box of B/P goodies, in it were two bottles of "Spit Patch", I remember the name from long ago but have never used it. For those of you that have used it, how did it work for you?

I think I had a bottle of Spit Patch back when the Earth was younger but never got another container. That must have been when I discovered the wonders of saliva or tallow. It's all a distant memory now.

I've had some of it before, but gave it away and never bothered to try it. I like something I can reproduce with a good solvent and some lube in it. Buying something like that.....I would be afraid to get another bottle and hope it was all the same. I'm not a spit patch fan anyway, but at least using your own spit, you know you can reproduce it. I rather like a mix with Murphys oil soap and Windex and it works wonders for me. If I were you, I'd be giving those bottles of spit patch away too !!!

I used it in the 70s and it worked well. Haven’t seen it for a long time or Spit Ball that I preferred.

Hi Stony, what proportions of Windex and Murphs do you use?

I have used the same mix for a lot of years, and use it to clean the guns too. I take a medium size bottle of Windex and add a cup of Murphys to it.

I prefer the Windex with vinegar rather than the one with ammonia.

🤢I used it when I was a teenager at shoots in the early 90’s. Worked fine if I recall. Someone gave it to me or my dad. Never used it all and kinda recall throwing it away about twenty years ago because it turned into something that resembled troll snot.

Any mix of water and some sort of grease cutting agent will work as a patch lubricant. It's really no better than the classic mix of one part of water soluble oil and water. There's a reason why it's not on the LGS shelves.
Second that, approximately 1 part Balistol to 7 parts water, works as a patch lubricant and a cleaning solution. I do belief we call it "Moose milk?" In cold weather I use Wonder lube 1000.

I use what is at hand mainly. The last few years, that has been bear grease.
I like wonder lube and similar offerings. I also have used WD-40 and it works pretty good also.
Moose snot and moose milk are real good, especially if you want to get real serious about it all.
But I do not like a spit patch. Doesn't load as easy as the other options.
