    12L14 barrel comes apart

I put together a .50 ca. TC Hawken kit years ago and gave it to a good friend. After about a year or so he managed to load a prb about 5 inches into the barrel, over 50 gr. of powder. It left a pretty noticeable ring around the barrel. We ended up shortening the barrel and made a little...

    Steel plate for Range

I totally agree with the swinging of the targets. I shot IHMSA for many years and did see a few guys get some small pecks taken at them from the closer targets. My targets at 100 yds. are still hanging from chains and hanging at an angle.

    Steel plate for Range

Never had a problem with the steel targets thus far and I've had them up for quite some time. Things like propane bottles just get holes in them and after they get too shot up, I just take them down and throw them away. Other targets are mostly 3/8 steel and hanging at an angle to deflect the...

    Steel plate for Range

On my range, I use all kinds of steel targets, including different sizes of propane bottles and lots of different hanging steel stuff. This one is what I call "Crater Man" as he has taken a lot of shots from mostly modern stuff at about 60 yds. He is about 5/8 inch thick and will still take a...

    Small bore rifles ?? Favorite's ?

Is started in with the 40's a lot of years ago, and it's always been a great caliber. You can load them way down if you want squirrels or small game or up to where you can take larger game. I used 40's in matches for years with great results.

TC drop GM barrel have people gone crazy?

I bought a GM barrel for a TC about a year ago for about 275.00. I have been shooting matches for many years, and that barrel shoots as good or better than any barrel I've owned. I bought a .45 barrel and load it with .445 balls and .010 patches over 40 gr. of 3f. I only use it for target...

    range rod

I have a large assortment of rods that I've collected over the years, but a nice brass one is my favorite type. I like to put an antler chunk on for a handle, and with the weight of the brass rod it sure loads easier. Some guys use pretty small balls in their barrels, but I like to do just the...

    New guy, first post ,,,,,

A guy can sure have a lot of fun with some of those. I built a mortar once and couldn't figure out what to shoot out of it, and finally went through Wal Mart with a tape measure. I ended up buying a bunch of larger sized cans of chicken noodle soup, and they worked just fine most of the time...

    Howdy from Texas

I'm up to 76 years old, and had to give up my hunting to major health problems....but I sure miss it. My last hog killed on one property was number #808. I have given away more hog legs than most people have ever seen....but I enjoyed every moment of it. One day I actually had a trap with 22...

    Breaking in a new barrel?

I recently put a Green Mountain .45 barrel on a TC Hawken and added peep sights. With the first load I tried in it, it was one of the most accurate barrels I have ever owned. The last match I shot it in, out of four differrent targets, I shot four possibles !! Nothing needed to be done to the...

    Caywood Wilson Trade Gun

I owned one for a longtime. I was somewhat happy with it, but in some respects it could have been better. I ordered a rifled barrel for it that they offered, but ended up sending it back as the wood fit was not good, and they were a little short tempered with me in regard to my opinion. I would...

    Soldering the front sight

I took a barrel to a friend that is a great builder once to have him put the front sight back on it, and watched him use that manner. It really surprised me how it was so easy and actually worked !

    Soldering the front sight

To find the middle of the barrel for the front sight, I was taught to lay the barrel on a flat surface resting on the rear sight. With a flat file under the front, just move the file foreward and back, and it will mark the front to match the rear sight on the barrel.
