Round or Square Patches? Is There Really a Difference?

I cut my patching material in strips, and cut at the muzzle. I always seem to have trouble getting pre-cut patches exactly centered.

    Muzzle blast magazine

Entirely my opinion: If you are in the eastern part of the US, it is a good magazine.

    Discharge while loading

I use a patch of old T-shirt, damp with a 1:2 mix of Ballistol and water. One stroke with each side of the patch. Wipes the bore and softens the fouling. Since the patch is just damp, and not sopping wet, I don't need to follow with a dry patch. I use the same mix as patch lube. on pillow...

    Discharge while loading

Quite real. I have seen it happen. It is just one of the reasons you ALWAYS keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

    very old caplock.

IMO, it did not have a false muzzle.

    very old caplock.

My opinion only: After a thorough cleaning and oiling, I would shoot it a few times before I gave up on the bore. If it had a false muzzle at one time, I would have a replacement made. If you feel it absolutely MUST be rebored, I would rebore it as little as possible: if it is .32, rebore to...

Needed 1st range trip supplies for a percussion rifle?

Here is my personal opinion. YMMV Additional items: A bag or tackle box to carry everything in. An adjustable powder measure is a MUST have item. You can buy/make a fixed measure once you find the ideal powder-patch-lube-ball combination. Nipple wrench Nipple pick Short starter Small pan...

    What was this used for?

I think at least one lock was replaced, and crudely inletted to fit the different lockplate.

Your best deal acquiring a muzzleloader, either trade or purchase

About 15 years ago, I was garage sailing, just looking at stuff, and I usually wind up by asking them if they had any old old firearms, ammo, or equipment they didn't want. One time, the woman having the sale told me to wait a moment, and came back with a CVA Mountain rifle. I asked how much...

Is loading from the flask really that dangerous???

Death and mayhem are always willing to gamble with you. They know they only need to win once.

Welcome to the forums. A question: Does flint occur naturally in Australia, or do you need to import it?

    Woods walks

I have enjoyed a variety of woods walks, and I have just two pieces of advice: 1) Tie everything to your bag, strap, or belt. EVERYTHING. The one thing you forget to tie will be the thing you drop when you are not looking. 2) I bring a plastic bag that newspapers are delivered in, and use...
