    Mold sizes

you have to account for shrinkage. if you want a pure lead ball of .615 from the mold you need it to be size .621

    muzzleloader cal .22 possible?

I plan to make one out of an old rimfire barrel. the main problems are a skinny ramrod breaking, difficulty loading tiny projectiles and patches, and fowling quickly. The fowling problem is one lots of people seem to mis understand. when black powder burns roughly half of it is remains as smoke...

    Aquafortis vs lmf stain

aqua fortis is great on maple and ash. it will never fade and not difficult to use. wipe it on and let it dry. it will give it a horrible green color till it is blushed. then in needs to be neutralized. it is wise to try it on a test piece or two. try it at different solution and also finishing...

What historical rifle would you most like to shoot?

I would want to shoot something crazy, so Samuel Bakers 2 bore or a chambers flintlock machine gun.

Will the bottom fall out of the custom build business?

when people buy custom guns they do it because they want something specific to them. They want a gun that is suitable to their taste and needs and I doubt resail value is a concern. I would be willing to bet most would prefer to hand down the rifle than to sell it when the time comes.

    32 flintlock

I don't hunt but i do shoot my 32 cal rifles the most. cheap and fun. takes a little work to get a good shooting load and small calibers tend to play by different rules than larger ones. I have not had one yet that was a problem child.

    Building percussion lock 12 gauge

for a single barrel gun the gunsmith of Greenville county, recreating the American long rifle, and the art of building a pennsylvania long rifle would give you the basics for how build a fowler. I would check track of the wolf for plans that are close to what you are wanting to build.

    Extra long rifle barrel maker

Hoyt or Rayle are the best bet. I know rice and fci both offer 48 inch barrels so might be worth asking what the limit of their machinery is.

Anyone have a flintlock 8 bore rifle?

I have an 8 bore barrel on order from the gun works. was quoted a lead time of a year. they also list 4 and 8 bore sporting rifles on the tab that says custom guns. I would give them a call to see if they know a builder willing to take on your project.

Just when you think you've seen it all

if you do a good job cleaning the gun i don't understand the harm done by shooting it. for those that want to be thrifty there is always this instead. https://www.sittingfoxmuzzleloaders.com/product/wk-4f-french-blunderbuss/

    GPR restocking question

tiger hunt is good to work with. I have gotten several blanks from them. you can build a replacement from a blank because you have your stock top measure and copy from.

    For .323 Round Ball

I would look at a stock for a traditions crocket or cva squirrel. a small caliber gun fits best with a slim stock otherwise it can be quite heavy.

    Two guns well possibly three!

H&A under hammer in 45, my Cherokee in 32 and my last option would be my pietta 1851 navy. have the parts to make it 36 or 44 caliber and a shoulder stock.

Shooting Pietta Navies with red toy caps

Is there any contact information to get a set of nipples?

    Patch box

I am not all that familiar with the Vincent rifles so I am not much help. But I would recommend searching through the various gun auction houses for pictures of originals they have sold. save the pictures to use as a reference.

    Is this blank worth using?

check grain direction and skew the plane. I would also recommend retracting the iron fully and then adjust it a little deeper until it starts to cut shavings. might simply be taking too big of a bite.

    After the Kibler Kits

I refinished a cva kentucky rifle then put a crocket kit together. once I understood how things are supposed to fit together I had enough confidence to try working from a plank. still a lot of head scratching and doing things wrong but it turned out ok.
