Drawfiling Billboard off Lyman GPR Flinter

Depends on just how bad you want billboard lettering gone. I did the peening and draw filing thing back about three years ago to my first Lyman GPR because it was a flintlock and I wanted it as realistic as possible. You certainly can do it and it will look fine IF you are careful and take...

    break in?

No, it's NOT just a ML/BP issue. Pretty much any unmentionable can have the same rough bore issues and will benefit from the same polishing procedures.

    Shooting with a newbie

Rich, what you did is sooooo important to the future of this hobby and sport so good job! Cyndi, tell those folks that question you about modern stuff that someone that learns to shoot a flintlock well will be able to shoot anything modern like a professional marksman! I am 67 years old and...

SOLD SOLD Lyman Great Plains Rifle 50 caliber $500

These are great rifles and the OP is offering someone a very good deal. Quite probably the closest replica to the actual Hawkens rifles you can buy today on the cheap. A custom-built Hawken replica STARTS at about $2,000. these days and goes up from there! These are great for new muzzleloading...

    Imported Guns Are Junk

Semi-true. Nothing usually works as well as something custom made by a professional but, are all factory made locks junk? No. People that make blanket statements like what you saw on Youtube usually have very little first-hand experience or they would not make such statements to begin with...

    Decisions Decisions

Get the Trade gun! I have a Northwest Trade gun from Sitting Fox that is great fun and very accurate out to about 50 yards. I liked it so much I next got a vintage Centermark Fusil de Chasse, also in 20 gauge. I own five other flintlocks and yet shoot the those two 20 gauge smoothies the most!

    TOW

I have always had very good service through TOW. I do miss their great catalogs though. Log Cabin still puts out a very nice catalog as does Dixie Gun Works.

Great service from the Log Cabin Shop!

We all have read or experienced our share of bad service from various companies over the years in our hobby so I think it's important to share the really good stories when they happen too. I recently broke the sear spring on the lock of one of my favorite flintlocks - a Centermark Fusil de...

    Does anyone recognize the Lock?

Sorry, I'm not good at this posting and attaching photos thing. I have since been told the lock in question is an R. E. Davis Lock so I know where to look for the needed part at least. Thanks to all who responded.

    Does anyone recognize the Lock?

Sorry, I guess it would help if I had actually asked my question concerning the Lock to my Fusil de Chasse. Does anyone recognize the maker and any idea where I could get a new sear spring for it. Thanks!
  17. Steve Martin

    Anyone recognize this Lock?

Well, I managed to break the sear spring on the lock to my Centermark Fusil de Chasse. The backside of the lock is stamped with the letter C a letter D in a circle and a letter H. I'll upload a couple photos to help.

Brown Small Parts or Not on Mountain Rifle (Just posted some put together pics)

Even assuming a gunsmith, back in the day was applying "browning" solution to a gun and it's parts the shade of brown would be different from part to part depending on what material the different parts were made from.

    Thread sizes?

10/32 is the larger of the two thread sizes.
  20. Steve Martin

    As is said, “Well, hell.”

My two cents worth - I have done all of my flintlocks in a slightly dull bare metal finish. I even removed all the brown from a Northwest Trade gun I bought and did it as a slightly "aged" bare metal as well. I believe from all my reading that the vast majority of the guns we all are building...
