Drawfiling Billboard off Lyman GPR Flinter

Even if the letters are removed, everyone looking at it still knows it's a Lyman

I never liked the lettering on my pedersoli bess and was going to remove it but never got to it.
I totally understand wanting to get rid of the stampngs. You got to feel good about your stuff.
Personalized is good.
People may still now it’s a GPR , but who cares? You can put new mags on you dodge and people still know it’s a dodge who cares if it makes you feel good about your stuff.

Good way to start building I hear those kits are fairly easy. I started with a Thompson Center renegade in the 80s, it was easy and I shot it for a few years until moving on. I like building guns and have built a couple, not as good a craftsman as most that are on here but I like it.

Not to get too far off the subject, but has anyone ever inleted a Pedersoli Frontier trigger guard? I hate the way it sits on top of the wood.

I re- breached a Thompson Center barrel (which i'm pretty sure was made by Green Mountain) and had to draw file it after I finally got the flats to line up. The barrel came out fine and, although it wasn't my intention, the "don't use this in the bathtub" markings were all removed and the barrel looks a boatload better.

It didn't take too long, and was well worth the effort.

Free advice, and no doubt well worth the price. … Make Good Smoke!

The best (and most idiotic) warnings I've seen were "do not iron while wearing" and the warning to wear gloves & safety glasses on the packaging for an office stapler.

Built my 50 Lyman Great Plains from a kit I bought in 1980. The instructions said to draw file the barrel so I kept at it until all the lettering was gone--the stamping wasn't very deep. I also reshaped the stock and nose a little to suit my taste.

I tapped mine down, files off the warnings and other useless stuff. Left the SN. Came out pretty good. Really didn’t take much filing.

Depends on just how bad you want billboard lettering gone. I did the peening and draw filing thing back about three years ago to my first Lyman GPR because it was a flintlock and I wanted it as realistic as possible. You certainly can do it and it will look fine IF you are careful and take your time (I did only the flats that showed above the wood). Recently I bought my second Lyman GPR which is a cap lock and after remembering the work I went through on my flinter, I decided I could live with the billboard on the caplock!

I am surprised nobody has suggested the possibility of setting the factory barrel aside, and start with a Track of the Wolf barrel. That's how much I dislike the billboard barrels.
