    Shipping Barrels.

No. I just wanted to know what to expect, or might expect when I shipped it off. Many years ago I shipped one through a copy-shop that had a UPS shipping dept/section/thing., didn't even have the touch-hole drilled, and they unwrapped the whole thing to "check" it. After I explained up and down...

First shot always a flyer problem...

Yeah...wheel weights...great for hot loads in the .44 Magnum. For muzzle loaders, not so great. So not great. Not great at all. Un-great. Non-great. Anti-great. Sub-great. :)

Wow. Thanks guys. Going to see how far out Hoyt will bore this .50" TC Hawken barrel.

If it's anything like the barrel on my Plains Pistol, it requires a book mark to read the whole thing.

Talk Me Out of Buying a Pedersoli 20 Gauge Shotgun

Really. Anyone tries to talk me out of buying another gun, I'll be looking for another forum.

First shot always a flyer problem...

Nock is right, the more accurate the gun is, the less spread there will be between the first, and follow up shots. With very fine accuracy, it won't even matter for hunting. For paper punching, it will just open the group up an inch or so, but for paper punching you'll shoot from a fouled barrel...

    Issue with a flying flint

I've always used very thin leather, and have never had trouble with slipping flints...not even the humpty-dumpty ones.

    My yardsale find

Just think, that rifle was someone's pride and joy when it was new.

    Pedersoli Indian Musket?

Now I am confused, re-reading Loyal's post, seems he is talking about shot in a smooth bore. ?? I agree, if the shot could rotate, seems like we could get our balls (!!!) to rotate, in a smoothbore, and obtain rifle like accuracy. Okay Dave, clarify.

Any complications when shipping just a barrel UPS? TIA

    My yardsale find

Looks like a good example of a gun that was kept running as long as repairs were possible. Some poor folks were using such guns right up until WWII to put a deer or turkey on the table. Repairs were probably made by anyone with some ability, and with whatever parts could be scrounged up, or...

    Issue with a flying flint

I think Trailer nailed it. Leather way to thick. Also, please get another flint that doesn't have so much of a hump on the top/middle.

First shot always a flyer problem...

But wait a minute, the quest for better accuracy is a noble cause, and endeavor, but, it is still normal for a rifle to shoot low, or high, from a clean barrel. I don't think load development will change that. That is why all my rifles are sighted to be on with the first shot, and then I just...

Best bet for a first smooth bore

I have been rasping/"chewing" the balls in my Bess, but still have not shot enough to make a determination. !! They are certainly not less accurate. Need to do that, maybe today, as the sun is shining for a change. They do "seem" to be more accurate, but again, I need to shoot several groups.

    Pedersoli Indian Musket?

Wow, never heard of the torque factor before. I know about torque vs. horsepower in engines, but not shotguns. Very interesting. I do know that longer barrels give a better "swing', but it didn't cross my mind. Anyhow, interesting info, my brain must chew on that a while. :)

Shotgun Slugs in .69 Musket, getting ready to go

For patches, or tight fitting bullets, minne's, REAL's, etc., no, pure bee's wax would not be great. Where I find it works well is with loose fitting paper cartridges. but...... It has been working well for me shooting minne's in a 1861 Springfield, where the bullet is way undersized to the...

First shot always a flyer problem...

But again, no amount of load variation, different projectile, etc., is probably going to change the dispersion between the first shot from a clean barrel, and following shots from a fouled barrel. ?
