Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

Anyone who is really good at a given skill generally makes it look easier than it really is.

Did military blunderbusses use buckshot paper cartridges?

I have seen a letter in the RN museum at Portsmouth wherein a Captain newly appointed to take command of a RN ship wrote to the ship's officers, outlining things he expected to be done prior to his arrival several weeks in the future. Re the ship's Gunner, he was to make up (I cannot recall...

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

Depends. On modern guns, no carving; if carried in the field, plain wood, if used at the range, fancy wood is fine. For flintlocks, the amount of carving should be typical for the period & type of gun.

    Hudson bay Blankets

How about using the green one to make leggings? Should be enough for several pairs - you could keep one pair & sell/barter the rest.

According to Clay Smith, (retired Williamsburg gunsmith), octagon to round is found on both rifle and smooth barrels. I have certainly see it on many original smooth bores.

    Misinformation on GB

Unlike Ebay, the end time of a GB auction is the time set by the seller OR 15 minutes after the last bid, whichever is LATER. I prefer the GB system as it eliminates"sniping" or the use of computer software to get a bid in at (literally) the last second. It is more like an in-person auction...

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

On the subject of native arrows, in 1962, my father brought back a set of native bow & arrows from the upper Amazon. The arrows were about 40" long. The front 1/2 was something like iron wood & the rear 1/2, cane. Natural feathers & a small unbarbed bone tip that supposedly was dipped in poison.

Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair

For whatever reason, there were only 92 vendors (not counting blanket traders or cart peddlers) this year v s the "normal" 110-120 vendors. All of the vendors that I talked to said sales were very strong, it was probably our highest sales event ever. There may be an unfortunate trend setting...
