Cannon found in scrap

I usually pay attention to trucks caring scrap in bed and over last 10 years picked few nice bikes and one cool Lambretta but this time it was something different ... Truck was loaded with stuff and only the tip of the barrel was visible but I figured out it was too thick just to be simple water pipe. So I tried to talk to the guy at traffic light stop but he speaks no English, then I used my Spanish but dude also don't speak Spanish (later it turned out he speaks Portuguese ....welcome to Miami) so I pointed to the side of the road and screamed STOOOOPPPPP.
We successfully unearthed this beauty from beneath broken BBQ ovens and stuff, I gave him $200 and we shook hands.

Now from what I understand this is a line throwing cannon?

What a great find & a great price! Galbrath was a well known name in line throwing cannon tho most I have seen were bronze.

Without all the "wow!s" I want to put in here, you have saved a nice Galbraith/Lyle line throwing gun from doom. There are a lot of example and history on line for them to read. A lot were bronze, yours appears to be iron. Again, very nice!!

You did good Sir, The following pictures are of a line throwing cannon I worked on last year for a local Yacht club. It was converted many years ago to fire 10ga blanks that they fire each day as they lower the flag. The original maker also made signal cannons used to start yacht races. I also get the job of loading the blanks for the cannon.

Do you intend to restore it, keep it as a display piece, or perhaps even put it into use (after ensuring it's safe to do so)? I sold it to a friend who owns popular bar in Miami. Last time I was there this cannon was getting lot's of attention from boozed up ladies. Sort of like this
