What kind of stuff do you all read?

Almost exclusively history. Mostly naval history. I always have 5-6 books on the "waiting to be read stack".

CLOSED “Flintlock Fowlers” by Tom Grinslade

It is a great book. I can find used copies going for as much as new ones - in the $45-$50 range! For this of any other book you want to buy or just check prices, I highly recommend a search engine - "www.bookfinder.com"

    Moulding balls

It is a .454. I have finally broken out of my longtime .36 habit. Introducing a new (to me) caliber in muzzleloaders is not as big a deal as with modern guns. Lead is lead (soft) & with the correct mold (in this case a deal), I can make as much ammo as I want.

    Moulding balls

Two weeks ago I bought a new in the box Lee double cavity roundball mold off Ebay for $20.93 including shipping. It now lives in my mold box with a number of it's different caliber brothers.

    Moulding balls

If you want to buy round balls, you cannot go wrong with buying from Eddie Mays in GA. Whenever I bought a new to me caliber gun, I would have him send me a couple dozen in each of several sizes. Once the best (for me) size was determined, then I would buy a mold in that size. Even if not...

    1849 As A First "Colt"?

A 1851 Navy seems to be the standard to which other models are compared. That would be my suggestion tho my personal favorite Colt is the 1861 Navy. The grips on pocket models are a bit too small for me & I do nor have "bear paw" hands.

Starr - single action vs double action?

Thanks to all for the advice. I will focus on finding a single action. Preferably for less $ than a 2nd gen Colt!

Starr - single action vs double action?

I am considering buying a Starr revolver. They were/are made in both single and double action models. If only getting one, which should it be?

Signature Series 1860 sold for $3025... What?

A second generation Colt is not an Uberti. Functional guns produced in Italy carry Italian proof marks. Colt imported some castings from Italy and subcontracted the manufacture first to Navy Arms (71-72) and then to Iver Johnson. Frames, center pins nipples and screws were all made in the US...

Signature Series 1860 sold for $3025... What?

Makes me feel better about the 2nd gen F series 1860 Army, unfired in the box, that I just got on GB for $850.

Mold size for Rogers & Spencer .44

The Rogers & Spencer arrived yesterday. It looks as new. Any cure for the very heavy pull to fully cock the hammer?

Mold size for Rogers & Spencer .44

The seller simply grabbed & sent the wrong box. He is sending my the Rogers & Spencer & $ to cover sending the Remington Lyman ( looks new) back. I was thinking of buying the Rem but it is sold to someone else. (and I have an Uberty .36 Rem.)

Mold size for Rogers & Spencer .44

Like they say, there is good news and bad news. The gun arrived early (from the Post Office no less). The gun sent is not a Rogers & Spencer .44 but a Remington 1858 .36 - Lyman markings & in new condition. I think the seller mislabeled boxes & sent me someone elses gun & vice versa. What is the...

    Chesapeake bay fowler

I would think similar to those made in Birmingham & shipped to the colonies rather than a northern gun. Have you checked into the decoy museum in Harve de Grace, MD ? They have a lot of later guns but there may be some early ones there too.
