Bullet suggestions for a 1:48 twist

My huntin buddy shot a fair sized Muley buck with his TC Renegade 54 last fall using a No Excuses 535 grain conical . He was DRT, about 85 yards. No tracking needed!

Knight Red hot musket nipples work!

I mentioned last year that I was having ignition problems with my 54 New Englander mostly with 2f T7. I modified my nipple and it helped but wasn't a sure cure. I came across Knights on Amazon and ordered one. They ain't cheap but boy do they work. Shot 2f about ten shots and cleaned when...

Whats your favorite muzzleloader you own?

Just a plain Jane 54 cal New Englander. But we've got a lot of history together! Love that flat butt plate.

    Preference poll: smoothbore or rifled?

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Little experiment with 2f and 3f Triple 7. Found out 70gr by volume of 2f weighs 55 gr and 70 of 3f weighs about 60 gr. So I weighed out 55 gr of both to see what the Chrono said, sorry forgot pictures. Both still had 100 ft per second extreme spread but even though I cut the 3f volume it was...

Round Ball performance story and question

I've seen the results of conicals on elk and I've gotta say it was very impressive. When hit right, no tracking needed . And when field dressing, massive damage to bone and tissue with no bullets recovered. Those elk had no chance. My kind of odds!

    Rifle plug removal, field removal

No no and NO! There's no reason to remove it on any side lock muzzleloader.

What is it that pulls us into muzzle loading!

When we moved from Montana to Idaho 35 years ago I found about these special muzzleloader elk hunts . I bought books and a 54 New Englander and I was hooked. I reload and have lots of other new fangled guns but 4 of them are smoke poles and that's all I seem to get excited about!

Is there a lube for shooting conicals?

You can order SPG online and just use that. It will certainly work all by itself. I've had great luck with it.

Anyone have hearing aid feed back using hearing protection muffs??

I found out that even having my hearing aids turned off and wearing electronic muffs was a bad idea. Went through 3 pairs (under warranty) . Apparently the electronics between the two wasn't compatible. Started taking them out when wearing muffs and no more dead hearing aids!

54 caliber, not so odd any more?

54's are popular at my house. I've got 2 of them and have no problem getting or casting round balls or conicals.

Kaido Ojamaa's 255 conical and the ROA

Triple 7 is nowhere near as corrosive as Pyrodex. I say that from experience. Try pure lead also.

Ever shoot a loading rod down range? You tell me........... I won't rat you out !

I'm in the twice club too, sad to say. Got a black eye and bloody nose the second time! Ouch! No more for me thanks 🤕

    Dry ball removal

I haven't used a ball puller in years and not because I don't dryball! I shoot them out or blow them out with compressed air. The only loose screws around my guns are me!
