    Chronograph flintlock pistol

No issue that the Chrony worked. Pain in the butt to setup for rifles, less so for pistols. And if it works and works for you, that is great. Mine just died. It was not abused, it just quit. Often is a loose connection, nope, went through it, all pristine, something on the...

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

Now that is iconic and a treat to see. Some people do not get that loose does not just stay loose. It gets looser and looser because its hammering away at the surfaces. But then you have a guy who says the lands get peened over and its an issue. Any loose part under force is going...

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

And I have seen test of people smashing the bore and accuracy was still good. Note the "seen" in there - what was the original load and accuracy and what was the accuracy with the same load after? . Perked up is not a fact, its an opinion. So, give us a powder and weighted gr...

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

Look at an airplane wing sometime. Yep, it flexes, that is part of the design. Now, barrels whip and stuff gets distorted a minute amount when a gun fires. But the last thing you want to do is leave a gap in your wing joint and have it not flex but move. Its going to break and all...

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

In all the years I worked on equipment (motors, engines, boilers, pumps, fans et al) - You followed the mfg guidelines because they knew the design. They designed and I kept it running per their design. I came up with a few ways to fix it better, but I sure never figured I could...

    Focus

Yea, kind of my reaction. It takes that real life situation to get the focus. I tended to ace tests when the previous work while decent was not up to that the test is real standard. When I was learning to fly my instructor got concerned and had the head flight guy do a cross check...

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

First I have read but I guess its one way to do it. 45D has a cure that is solid. I always try not to do something I can't take back. Tig would a least affect the metal of the arbor with heat I would think. I just used Shims but 45D has a system that matches exact as needed.

    Focus

Shades of Fate is the Hunter (book). The training captain lighting matches under the new co pilot nose/face in a stormy landing telling him, real world you will someday have to overcome bad things like this. I use both muffs and plugs. Still got hearing loss from engines. I know what...

    Uberti revolvers tuning

I can't get an image in my mind of the dynamics you quote, will leave that to 45D. I don't see a large amount of twisting being good for a Colt open top type pistol (well any pistol but the arbor system being a Colt open top specific design) That is kind of odd as not many use a Colt open...

    Chronograph flintlock pistol

Interesting though no data that is relevant to your gun. LabRadar tracks the BP revolvers in 45 Caliber that I shoot. I have had velocities down to 400 fps but it was one off as it was a test round in an unmentionable. That Garmin is a neat little device. Not going to change of...

    Proper powder

There are still no real standards. We have various BP substitutes and 777 3F is super fine, Pyro P is pretty course. GOEX is closer to Pyro RS (and yes the substitutes are driven by burn rates and makeup). Now in a given mfgs lineup, I am sure you can easily see the grades but across...

    Cap jam

There are a lot of factors. I found the RWS Caps do not exhibit the same issues as the CCI and Rems did on the 47 Walker. I tried the Slixsprings cones on a Pietta NMA and I did not find them any better than the cones on the old 76 ASP, some and some. As for hammer bounce, yea its...

    Old army / hard cast.

I agree on use of soft lead bullets, but I don't think so because of getting higher velocity or impressive ballistics. It depends on what the purpose of the load is. Target shooting does not require higher ballistics, its best found what the gun shoot best at be it 650 fps or 850...

    Shooting a 170-year-old Colt Pocket

I have shot some 100 year old and a bit Milsurplus rifles but those are still common (they made millions of the various types) 170 year old Pistol, that has got to be something. I bought a WWI Luger all matching part numbers and then was told, if you shoot it, you loose the value of the...

    .454 vs .451 balls

I have not seen any increase with a .457 ball vs a .454 but I am still testing. The band on a .457 as I recall is .125.

    .454 vs .451 balls

The Uberti 47 Walker calls for a .454 ball and the manual says all .44 caliber should be .454 ball or Conicals. Chain-fire testing I have watched cautions that .451 and below can and or will get a chain-fire going. I shoot some .451 balls just to see but I put a lubed wad under the bullet.

So you want a cap and ball revolver?

Mike: I would say that is a tough one as it makes sense in more modern, lighter (?) and using what looks like a method or making more rigid. Until I started reading your details and thinking differently at to what the Arbor actually is in the Colt design, I felt the same way. You...
