    The Trade Gun is Finished

Beautiful! I mean, not as pretty as a Traditions Kentucky, but really nice… I kid, I kid! That is some gorgeous work! Why did they go from octagonal to round on the trade guns? Was there a cost benefit there or something? Seems that would have made more work, and this a more expensive gun...

    Who names their rifle?

I named mine Crow… you have to be a Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan to understand.

    Ramrods and Re-enactments (and stuff)

How often do they do the reenactment stuff at the Castillo? Have some real good friends that live in St Augy, and we are only a couple hours away… -Red, needs to go to St Augustine now…

Red’s Even MORE Incredible Shooting of Tradition’s Kentucky: .50 Cal of Accurate Goodness

Went back to shoot the pig today. Had a lot of fun with it. Shot with my son in law. This was my second attempt. Ain’t counting the penny as it isn’t at least halfway in. If y’all haven’t shot the monthly postal match, June target has already been posted. Give it a try. Harder than I thought it...

    March 2023 Postal Target

Looking forward to it. Hey, sorry about posting two different targets from the same gun. I missed that part somehow. I’ll save up until I get my best one for June. Thanks again for doing this! -Red, watching his cooler around Gary…

    March 2023 Postal Target

Once again, shooting my period correct, historically accurate, Tradition’s Kentucky .50 cal, EXACTLY like the rifle Daniel Boone carried to Texas with him. This was my second target of the day. Load was 40 grains of FFF (because the spout on the brass flask is 20 grains, and this made it more...

    March 2023 Postal Target

I was so hesitant to put up my first target. I thought, “I’ll shoot another one and post the best one up.” Then I dry balled on the second shot. The black powder gods demanded I post it up! -Red, owning his failures… and crummy shooting…

    May 2023 Postal Target

Man, you guys are killing it! Nice shootin’! Will reshoot it tomorrow afternoon if every thing goes right. Not expecting anything like y’all have been hitting though. Will be concentrating on not dry balling this time, lol!

Not going with the ox urine? Rookie mistake… It was an impressive dive in to it! I liked what he said though. If you have a product/procedure that works for you, stick with it. I’m always willing to try something new. I wish he would have specified which Frog Lube he used. There’s like a million...

    Plum or Brown?

That boiled one is gorgeous! The one thing I will do different on the next one is to card lightly with 0000 steel wool. I used denim, and it didn’t provide the smoothest finish. It did turn out a very nice, even brown though.

    Plum or Brown?

I thoroughly underestimated the quality of replies you would get. Good stuff! -Red, thinking of just deleting his reply after the big boys checked in…

That was a lot better than my reason.

    Ramrods and Re-enactments (and stuff)

There is a serious evil in that, isn’t there? Killing a random person just for the sake of killing?

    Plum or Brown?

LMF brown. Because that’s what I used… LOL! It’s really up to what you want it to look like. I used LMF brown because there was no heat involved. Wipe it on, card it off, repeat. It looks great. Also, if I want it black, I can just boil the barrel. But I’m liking it brown. And now you will...

    Rust Prevention

I did like the “final thoughts” this guy made: #1 and #6 especially. From the article- Final thoughts 1. There are two enemies to our guns. Neglect and liberal Democrats who dislike the 2nd amendment. Do everything in your power to make sure neither are allowed to make any advances on your...

    Rust Prevention

Just thought I’d put this up here for y’all to check out. I know, I know. I’m going to hear, “I’ve been wiping my gun down with ox urine just like my grandpappy, and his grandpappy before him, with NO RUST!!!!!” (Notice the caps and exclamation points? Yeah, you REALLY MEAN IT!!!) Anyway, two of...

    My Traditions Kentucky Pistol Build

I really don’t know. I just know that in bending mine, it broke. There are some threads on here that discuss bending brass. Enjoying the build so far! Keep posting up! -Red, needs a pistol now…

    My Traditions Kentucky Pistol Build

Don’t bend on that trigger guard! Brass “work hardens”, I found out, when I bent my trigger guard juuuust a smidge. Broke it. Admittedly, it was a longer, thinner trigger guard for the Kentucky rifle. -Red, knows a few things, because he’s seen a few things…
