    need finishing tips

Here’s a couple pictures of a walnut Underhammer stock that I just completed. There was no stain of any kind used. I used two very wet coats of LMF Permalyn stock sealer applied with a maroon colored Scotch Bright pad. Each coat was allowed to soak for about 10 minutes then wiped off with clean...

    SOLD H&A Underhammer butt stock

I have a butt stock for an H&A Underhammer. Walnut with very nice figure. I have a hard plastic butt plate that I will include. The hole pattern doesn’t match up with the plate but you can easily drill a new mounting hole. 12 1/4” total length. I can include the through bolt as well. $165 shipped.

Idaho Lewis' .50 Hollow Base Design

I think those bullets pictured can be purchased through Buffalo Arms Co. I know he used to shoot paper patch bullets from them quite regularly and those look just like them.

Shot the corn meal loads today

Have any of you experimented with using 1 thin card between the powder and cornmeal, just to keep them separated? Or is it an unnecessary step? I’m going to run a few test loads through my jug choke 12ga in the near future.

    62 cal 1:30 twist barrel 1" ATF

Just for KICKS:) I went on a twist calculator and it looks like it would take a bullet of about 1.5 " long to stabilize in a 1-30 twist 62 cal , that's with a velocity around 1200 fps. Not sure what that bullet might weigh? I'm thinking the stock would have to resemble a cannon frame :)...

    Help with cast bullet sizing

If you want to, you can go over to the sister site of modern muzzleloader forums and look on page 3 of the sidelock sub forum. “Finally got to the range today “ post covered the results of the 50-415i in a TC Renegade. There’s some sizing info that may be of interest.

    Help with cast bullet sizing

If I were you, I would order the accurate mold 50-415i. It’s a proven design out of many different TC 1-48 rifles. Get the 501 Lee sizer. Order the mold at .501 + tolerance. Your mold will be no smaller than 501 but will most likely be closer to.503. With pure lead you will probably not have to...

    Another cap making question

Yes, that’s what I was thinking. Adding fresh compound onto existing. The cap seems almost empty in the current state. Maybe it’ll just be a rainy day project to make up 10 or so and see.

    Another cap making question

So I had a chance to pick up 1000 RWS 1075 caps last year during the cap drought. They are older metal tins but were all new/old stock and had the sealed wrapper around the edges. I have sampled several of the tins and all the caps I tried fired without hesitation. I brought a tin of the old...

    Black Mountain Magnum

I had one for a short time. I believe mine was a 1-28 twist. Had the synthetic stock and I just couldn't get used to it. Sorta the same profile as the New Englander? Right? If it has the fast twist it should do very well with your intended conical weight range.

    Pedersoli Jäger or Kibler SMR

I don't have either rifle that you are looking at (YET) but for what it's worth I really try to buy American. My Sharps reads Shiloh not Pedersoli. I was born and raised in Ohio and now live out West. When I save up a few more dollars, my money will be spent on an American Longrifle from an...

    NEW TO BP SHOOTING

I used to do a little shooting with Lewis and I know he was a big fan of the Lyman 57 tang for Hawken/Renegade and the Lyman front globe sight. He also had one of his long range fast twist rifles set up with a Vernier Tang sight from Lee Shaver. Idahoron also has a similar set up on his "hot...

    NEW TO BP SHOOTING

OP says for paper and steel. No longer hunts. Lewis was making good hits with RB at very extended ranges, again for fun Not hunting. Good sights will be needed.

I agree, a tough time of the year for load testing over there in Ideeho. 22 deg is way to cold :)

    Renegade for elk hunting

I was gifted a 54 cal TC Renegade last year. The previous owner had no real experience in proper cleaning and the bore was frosted pretty badly. I spent a good amount of time polishing that barrel to get it back to a reasonable shooting condition. I wanted to try a short conical in the 1-48...

    Renegade for elk hunting

The No Excuses are a good alternative if you don't cast your own. That 420 grn would be about right for your twist. Check out his web site. I'm pretty sure you can get a size sampling pack so you know what best fits your particular bore. One thing to also consider is the type of bullet lube that...

    Show your Muzzleloading gems.

Here’s a trio of under hammers. The brass one is a 12ga smoothbore, the next is a 50 cal with a Green Mountain LRH 1-28 and my latest addition is a 62 cal rifle built on a H&A action. Same builder for all. I did the complete metal and wood finish on the rifles. Gunsmith finished the smoothbore...
