    Longhunters vs Aliens!!

Am I to understand an aliens kill zone is 2ft X 2ft? All hits count? That doesn't sound too hard (knock on wood). I'll give it a shot (or 4).

    Hawken welts

In reading about the fitting of shotguns and high power rifles, I understand your better stocks have a slight taper down in the comb from the butt pad forward. This causes the stock to drop down away from your face as the recoil shoves it back, instead of smacking your cheek. I am not sure I...

    Fixed my broken ramrod

My new to me .58 cal. rifle I just bought came with a 5/16" wood ramrod, seems way too small for that gun. A larger one won't fit the pipes so I bought a 36" long solid aluminum rod at the hardware store today for about 4 bucks. All I have to do is to drill and tap a hole for a jag in the end...

Old Guys vs Young Guys 2011, ends July 31st

Bein' last aint so bad, look at it this way, at least someone else fells better! Or, you could say, I was going for high score? It's all in fun, burnin' powder and all. I shot some really crappy targets before I ran out of time and had to send one in, I thought I would do much better.

    New gun or new barrel?

+1 longrifle I started with a used TC flinter cause that was all I could afford. Learn to shoot flint, learned to tune the lock, troubleshoot problems, work up loads, etc. Upgraded to a GM barrel, had to modify the inletting slightly to line up the touch hole properly, cut dovetails and made my...

    Who Sees "The Flash"?

Get yourself a big ole' musket lock, pack as much 4f as you can in the pan, lots of flash! :rotf:

    Hawken welts

I have 2 TC's that I shoot regularly, one is factory built, the other a kit gun. The kit gun has the cheek piece shaved down to be more subtle than the factory. Neither one hurts me with heavy loads but the kit gun is more comfortable. I have fired the heavy TC Maxiballs with 120 gr 2f out of...

    New rifle

I found a 7mm wrench at the local hardware that fit. I changed the nipple and went out shootin. I like this gun! I have some load work to do, and definitely have to do some trigger work, but so far, so good. By the time I got out shooting the afternoon "breezes" were howling pretty good so I...

    New rifle

You are right Rick, my mistake, it is a cut down version of a Zouave, not an Enfield. All of my experience to date has been with Hawken/ Plains style rifles and I am not very familiar with the old military rifles. I get confused with the different models. I have a box of .570 round balls and...

    New rifle

I just purchased a new-to-me rifle at my local gun shop yesterday afternoon. It is a Navy Arms Buffalo Hunter carbine, made by Antonio Zoli in Italy. I have been doing some searching and can't find much info on these guns. It is a cut-down, sporterized version of the 1863 Enfield rifle, .58 cal...

Flintlock vs Percussion ends Sept. 30, 2011

As an old fart I shot my flinter in the other match. I just bought a like new "Buffalo Hunter" cap gun today that is going to need some powder burnt in it, so I'll shoot a cap gun in this match.

    black powder question

My 50 with a GM barrel seems to prefer 2f where my CVA mountain rifle 54 groups better with 3f, go figure!

    New gun or new barrel?

I am not particularly concerned with my rifle being PC or HC and I started muzzleloading with a TC Hawken flinter. After a bit I got a hankering for a rifle with better accuracy and a proper round ball twist even though the 1-48 was plenty good for deer in the eastern woods. I could not afford a...

    Alcohol?

Thanks guys, I was wondering. I was looking at a bottle I have today and it is 70%, I have seen some that is 50% water. I use RemOil in my bores for storage and it is rather thin, I usually just wipe with a dry patch before shooting and haven't had any problems.

    50 Cal Load help

I am assuming you have a good, slow, round ball twist in that TOW rifle, and have to agree with the others that 70-100 gr. 2f will shoot well. That is what I use in my 1-72 GM barreled Hawken, really don't see much difference in accuracy in that load range. In my 1-48 twist it is a lot more...

    Alcohol?

I have read in many posts on here about swabbing the oil, etc. out of a bore before loading a clean gun. I usually just use a dry patch, but many mention using alcohol. I am curious as to what kind of alcohol is being used. Isopropol (rubbing alcohol) is generally mostly water, ethyl alcohol...

    Checking bores

I was looking at a used muzzleloader at my local gun shop the other day and asked the owner for a bore light. He has a rather slick idea for checking them. With a normal bore light dropped into the barrel you still can't see the first couple inches near the breech. He has a couple small aluminum...
