    .36 Caliber Fans?

I have a Pedersoli Frontier in .36 and have grown to really enjoy it. I can't speak too much on the fouling because I think most of my problems came from the previous owner not cleaning the rifle much. I have to shoot it with pyrodex because real black causes hard loading after the first shot. I...

    Shooting undersized balls

I know it's possible, however not ideal. What I want to know is has anyone had any luck with hard(ish) lead? I have about 300 pounds of wheel weight lead which I know is too hard for the usual sized balls in a rifled gun (.490 or .495 in a .50, etc) as I have tried and broke a ball starter and a...

Very cool! I'm still trying to find a flintlock themed tie for a very liberal family members wedding later this year...

    .50 Smoothbore Thoughts.

I had thought about that but my .36 is a caplock and I would really love to have a nice flintlock for my .40. I did ask what people on here thought about converting it but it seemed pretty negative in general, apparently its like opening a can of worms with some rifles and I have already done...

    .50 Smoothbore Thoughts.

Those are some good points that I had not considered. I have thought about the barrel diameter though, I will double check but I think the same barrel is used up to the .50 (its quite a heavy rifle, lotta steel up front).

    .50 Smoothbore Thoughts.

So I have a Pedersoli Frontier in .36 that I bought brand used and despite what the description said, it did not have a bright and shiny bore. I have spent quite a bit of time working on it to get it to a point where it loads easily and shoots fairly well but it's still a pain to clean with the...

    Boring pedersoli

    Seems reasonable to me.

    What Is That Square?

Looks like someone didn't like where the rear sight was and filled the dovetail with the intention of cutting it flush to the barrel when they cut a new dovetail for the sight... Maybe.

    Ball Board

    Hello from Virginia.

Hey there Ryan, what part of VA are ya in? Im over on the Northern Neck just outside of Montross.

    Ball Board

Constructive criticism always welcome! I did plan on making these thinner but I was planing these ones down with a bench plane and that oak was hard! Once I get a tall enough fence set up on my bandsaw, I should be able to knock off quite a bit more before I break out the hand tools!

    Ball Board

I've always been a function over form kind of guy but I think it turned out pretty decent. Made from a piece of oak flooring that I grabbed out of a dumpster! The little board is one I made a year or so ago from a piece of maple toy train track (shhh, don't tell my kids).

    Flint raw stock

I don't see anything that looks like flint or chert. Go back and start smacking stuff with a hammer and see how it breaks 🤪

Why the "patent breech" design ?

Just commenting to follow up on the responses. I agree, you would think a flat breech would be easier and cheaper to produce. I think I read somewhere that it is supposed to create a more even and consistent burn... Just creates a cleaning headache for me.

    WANTED Black Powder Themed Necktie

Got a wedding to go to in a couple months. Figured if I gotta dress up, might as well represent the sport! Let me know what you got (and might be willing to let go of).

    Patent/tapered breech cleaning tip.

Just a tip that someone passed on to me that I feel I should pass on to anyone who doesn't already know. A regular old q-tip cotton swab screws right into 10-32 threads (the fluffy bit, not the stick) and makes getting down into those tapered breeches a breeze. Whether blotting out oil before a...

Your best deal acquiring a muzzleloader, either trade or purchase

Would have to be my T/C White Mountain Carbine. Picked it up from a pawn shop for $150, don't think it had ever been fired. Had the T/C peep sight installed too which goes for $80+.
