    GrFt powder

I've been using Graf's house brand for years, initially made by Wano and until recently, by GOEX. No problems with either, but truth to tell, I like the GOEX a bit better. Btw, the original Elephant BP was dirty and slow, but its replacement, Diamondback, is much, much better even though it's...

    Mowry 50 cal Information

You'll need a .495" dia. RB for the Mowrey. I use a .018" pillow ticking patch and 50 - 60gr. FFg for short range target work. As per Mowrey's instructions, you shouldn't exceed 95gr. FFg. Btw, they are accurate rifles. I hope yours performs well for you!

    November 2022 Postal Match

Wow! Looking at my calendar, I wonder where the month has gone. I.e., I won't be able to shoot at turkeys this month and our range closes for deer season until December 3. Bummer! (I did print the November target though, one even in color. LOL)

    casting wrinkly balls

I have that mould and it casts well, but I use a casting thermometer (Tel Tru brand). If you haven't already done so, scrub that mould with dish soap and a soft toothbrush, dry it thoroughly, and cast with it a few times (to get it hot and to remove any remaining water). Then smoke the...

What is needed in your bag?

After you've done this for awhile Pee Wee, you'll discover exactly what you need in your pouch (and what you don't!). Once that happens, make a checklist and print out several copies. That way you can make certain you take what you need and leave the other stuff at home.

    mink oil from TOTW

Rather than rely on mail order and shipping costs, why not consider making your own BP lube? E.g., Stumpy's Moose Snot is easily made and can be adjusted for "firmness" to suit the application; and you'd don't have to use castor oil as per the recipe. Here's a link to it: Making Stumpys Moose...

Williams Tang Peep Sight for TC Hawkens & Renegades

Nice installation, TDM! By any chance did you change out the Patridge front sight for the one with a bead (as found on some Hawken rifles)?

    GOOP Lube

One further thought about Goop (as above): I read in either Muzzle Blasts or Muzzle Loader the ML {hunting} rifles weren't always cleaned after each use, but some used a suet, animal fat "swab" tied to the cleaning rod and left in the bbl. until the gun was next needed. I'm thinking Goop can...

This is the product we use in the laundry and for cleaning hands. Never thought of using it for a patch lube though.

Help On Refining Lube for Maxis

Look up Stumpy's Moose Snot, which you can easily make and adjust the proportions to make it clingier. It is an excellent BP lube.

    October Postal Match

11th corp's experience with the revolver motivated me to print another pumpkin target and have at it with my 1858 New Model Army. (Actually I was planning to take it to the range anyway.) My result wasn't good enough to post, as I had trouble finding where the gun shoots. However, once I got...

    Cabela's Hawken by Investarms

Speedgoat44, You'll need to shoulder each gun to determine which fits you better. E.g., I have a Renegade that doesn't fi me well at all v. an Investarms (Lyman) that fits me perfectly. Also, it took me ~1 hr. top polish the sear, trigger, and lock innards with a Dremel and fine Cratex wheel...

New idea for a Range/Cleaning Rod?

FYI, I asked my wife where she got the curtain rod mentioned in my post above: Target (kind of appropriate, don't you think?), but I'm sure there are other sources. Btw, once separated, said rod would yield 2 rods, one for ~.45cals. and one for .50cal and up.

New idea for a Range/Cleaning Rod?

My wife and I were changing over our bedroom curtains earlier today and had to monkey with the hollow, seamless, two-piece stainless steel curtain rod. It suddenly occurred to me that with a bit of modification, e.g., removing the end pc. decorations, inserting a sleeve of some sort, and...

T/C 54 cal round ball mold

Just a few words about T/C moulds in general in case you're in the market for one. First, whoever purchased blacksmith58's mould got quite a deal! Second, to my knowledge, the T/C moulds were generally not made in .005" increments so that a .54cal. mould would cast @ .530" in pure lead and a...

All, The pumpkins, except for the center one, are quite visible @ 25 yd., so don't let that dissuade you. However, knocking out a tooth or hitting the nose is, shall we say, a mite difficult.
