What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Was thinking this might be the day to shoot my recently acquired Brown Bess carbine but this was the weather I got. Might be a better day to work on a badly needed organization of my muzzleloader accessory storage area, since after my latest purchase (my first smoothbore) , it's no longer...

3rd annual Pioneer Flats "FREE" Shootout in Pennsylvania ( #2 of 3)

Looks like a great time! Thanks for sharing. I'm relatively new at muzzleloading. Found your YouTube channel a couple of days ago and it's awesome.

    Shot Shortage?

Good to know. Thanks. Hopefully some will show up again on the shelves here. If I have to pay shipping the price will probably double. I could always harvest a few unmentionable shells for shot in a pinch. Raining sideways here now so probably not a good day for a newbie to play with a...

    Shot Shortage?

I wanted to try shooting shot in the Brown Bess Carbine I purchased recently. Seems like shot has been sold out here in Fairbanks, AK since I started looking for it. Is there a national run on shot now, or is this just a local phenomena?

So a guy walks into an auction...

That sounds like fun. Did you ever go shooting with the Midnight Sun Muzzleloaders? I went to three or four of their shoots. Sounds like the club is inactive at this time.

So a guy walks into an auction...

Yep, really got lucky. I don't go there that often but had a sudden urge to drop in after leaving the DMV. It must have been calling me.

So a guy walks into an auction...

Very nice. Wow, good thing I didn't drive by there. I got a good deal on a Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine at Iron & Wood about a week and a half ago and thought "Okay, that's all I need, no more shopping for muzzleloaders." The deals you mentioned are going to sorely test my resolve!

Price Increase coming for Pedersoli Firearms

Wow. I bought a Bess carbine in almost new condition about a week ago for $800.00. Starting to think that was a pretty good deal.

    Brown Bess Flints?

Perfect. Thank You! Two pounds of flints on the way.

    Brown Bess Flints?

Thanks tenngun. I live in Alaska. I was just doing a little asking around today and it does appear to be some chert, but it seems to have been found mostly in the Brooks Range about 100 miles or so away from the road system. There is one place in that area that I frequent so I'm going to do...

    Brown Bess Flints?

Thanks, folks. Good to know. I would like to try knapping. Since my last name is Knapp, maybe it's time to resume the family trade.

    Brown Bess Flints?

I just acquired a Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine yesterday as a self gifted early birthday present. Went to Track of the Wolf online to get balls, accessories etc. I also intended to get flints but the 1 1/;8 x 1 1/4 flints that the catalog said were the correct size for the Bess were out of...

    Cabela's black powder?

The upside to this might be that more business will go to smaller sellers who are more committed to traditional muzzleloaders. At least that's where I'm going to start looking.

    Alaska People?

Just stumbled into this thread. I grew up in Girdwood in the 60's and 70's but have been in Fairbanks full time since 97. I've been interested in muzzleloaders most of my life but got my first one, a .54 GPR (percussion) only about seven years ago. Despite the challenge of getting real black...

    Cabela's black powder?

Thanks, Dave. That's useful to know. I live in Fairbanks, AK and when I was first shopping for a muzzleloader a few years ago I drove down to Anchorage thinking that the new Cabela's there would have selection of traditional muzzleloaders that somewhat resembled what was in the catalog. Turns...

    Cabela's black powder?

Thanks. Maybe the problem is just a pop-up on the site that keeps blocking out the shooting tab. I was planning to look in to getting some sort of flintlock long gun next month or so, and it appeared that Cabela's had some good prices on Pedersoli guns. The nearest Cabela's is three hundred...

    Cabela's black powder?

Does Cabela's still sell muzzleloaders? I went to their online catalog and, unless I'm missing something, it appears that the black powder section is gone.

A day of "firsts" shooting BP.

Fun! I still need to get mine dialed in. Last time I shot it I was using 30g of 3F Goex and it seemed to be hitting where it was pointed but I was shooting at gallon milk jugs and not bullseyes so don't know exactly how well I was doing. I'm VERY jealous of your beautiful muzzleloader range.

Got my BP pistol supplies today....

Shopping for gun stuff is it's own unique kind of pleasure. Did you get out shooting yet? I'm itching to shoot my Trapper pistol again along with my Lyman GPR. Seems like we're alternating between too hot and dry and hard to keep your powder dry around here.

Group size related to age ??

I'm 15 years your junior and I would have been quite happy with any of those groups. There must be some kind of anti-corrosion treatment to keep sights from getting all fuzzy looking. All my older guns have developed that condition and my new guns came that way.
