    Hunting in the Big City

Houston…..hunt in Rocksprings, TX, 5.5 hours west of Houston, or near Pineville, LA, 4 hours east of Houston. Grew up hunting near Trinity, TX. 1.5 hours north of Houston….those woods are no longer woods…..

    Pre-Lubing patches with mink oil

This is my first year to use TOTW’s mink oil as patch lube in conjunction with “speed loaders” when hunting…..I’m curious about what others do with their patches and mink oil. Do you pre-lube a few or do you only lube when loading the gun? I’ve got two “speed loaders” I loaded two weeks ago and...

    Finished pictures of Kibler kit...

@labrat I would tell you how beautiful I think your gun is, but I am speechless at the moment. You have created a work of art, it is magnificent!

    Big Sigh….

I was invited to a friends deer lease over the Thanksgiving weekend to hunt spikes and does, otherwise known as a management hunt. I decided to take my old .50 TC Hawken percussion. The lease is setup with bow blinds that provide a 20 - 40 yard shot, most blinds are tripods in trees at 12’ or...

    Well, I finally dry-balled

What is the most important item in my shooting bag……..the nipple wrench!!!

    New gun options

From @martin9 “The stands I hunt are set up for bowhunting” This is exactly the way I hunt as well…..most of my shots are 20 - 30 yards. I have my .50 sighted dead on at 25 yards, 2” high at 50 yards. I use a rangefinder to identify trees, brush etc to create a shooting ”border”. If a deer is...

    Hawken Clone Drops a Doe

I stopped eating any meat associated with the CNS after CWD started. All meat is boned out; no saws used. My apologies for asking but….CNS….CWD????

    Field Cleaning

A couple of patches with moose milk followed by a couple of dry patches, using both sides of the patches. Anytime I shoot my gun in the field this is how I ”clean” it before reloading. I don’t do a full on cleaning until i get back home be it one day or five days or…..then it’s hot water….just...

    Ready-made patches for sale?

I don't own a good enough micrometer to measure the thickness of cloth. Is there a place that sells patches made for loading balls? I'm not talking about patches for cleaning, I use everything from terry cloth to old t-shirts for that. A good-enough micrometer costs $350, which I can't afford...

    Scammers

My favorite is to start speaking in Spanish, begging them to speak with me so I can practice speaking English…..they always hang up….except that one time when she spoke better Spanish than me.

    Black Powder in Houston…

Moderators, if this post is in conflict with rules please delete. For those of you in the Houston area, 10 Ring (10ring.com) has BP available, was there this morning and picked up a couple of pounds of GOEX 3F. The guy helping me indicated they had plenty of 2, 3 and 4F. Also, they have plenty...

Sighting in from bench for off-hand shooting

Also when shooting from a bench be certain you are resting your gun on the forestock and not the barrel.

    Stuck Load

What @necchi said; if it doesn’t work the first time, it’ll work the second. If it doesn’t work the second time usually works the third…and so on. The only way I clear a dry ball or fouled powder charge. Oh, and even works on stuck patches…

    What would you choose?

.50 TC Hawken Colt Walker I have to go with those……they are the only two BP firearms I own….

    Graf black powder accuracy

This should answer your question…..this took approximately 50 shots over three or four different trips to the range to achieve this accuracy. To answer your question directly, is it possible, absolutely….but as others have said, there is MUCH MORE than just the powder that has to be right to get...

    1" groups at 25 yards, 10" at 50 yards?

What @Grenadier1758 said…..it worked for me.
