What would the original stock look like? Wood looks pretty ancient. Not sure what caliber it is yet.

A friend brought this by today and swapped me for a WWII piece. He has the provenance from his late grandfather who traveled Europe and purchased a lot of medieval pole arms, swords and early firearms. I had the lock off today and freed up all the parts. Fitted a piece of pyrite and it sparks...

    Spanish Musket

I am purchasing a Spanish musket, blunderbuss and brass barreled pistol from a friend that was one of the main Indian manufacturers of black powder guns. Anyone have any experience with these?

    Whhellock Cannon Lock?

The reason for me asking this is that I was offered some cannon locks. At the time I was discussing wheellocks with my friend and mistakenly thought that the cannon locks were wheellocks. They are indeed, flintlocks. I will post pictures of of the locks when I receive them.

Wheellock lock comparison - Spanish Mendi vs. Indian X model

Cossack Your story about loaning an original lock is exactly the story that my Indian friend told me. He said he borrowed a lock from a friend and he produced the first affordable wheellock gun in this country. His family owns the largest replica arms and armor company in India I believe. He...

    Simple Wheelock

I have been playing with the Indian wheelock for sa few days and I got a feel for its shortcomings. I decided to try my hand at building a simplified version. Seeing that the cock has to be placed on the wheel prior to shooting (yes it doesn’t drop as it should), I decided that on my version...

    Indian Wheellock

I got a dremel diamond blade today and In cut some pyrite. Man is it dusty. I cut some rectangular pieces and I can get some sparking. Not enough for my liking.

    Indian Wheellock

I am going to try my hand at spring making. Years ago I bought an assortment of flat spring material from Brownells. I am finally going to use some of it

    Indian Wheellock

The wheellock came today. The wood to metal fit and finish is very nice. Metal work looks typical for Indian workmanship. All in all not bad for a gun a little shy of $500. Not knowing anything about the mechanics, I can tell that a stronger spring would probably be better. I will remove the...

    Indian Wheellock

In the past I have sent a rare German dagger to be duplicated by the Indians. Although the final product came out perfect, it took several years to get to that point. I had to send back the prototype parts several times to get it corrected. The Indian craftsmen can do wonderful work, but you...

    Indian Wheellock

I am pretty excited about getting this. In the past I only thought he dealt in daggers, swords and damascus. He says he doesn’t have any muskets available but may have some flintlock pistols left. He is pretty much retired. I may see if he wants to liquidate his remaining firearm line.

    Indian Wheellock

Educate me on how to tell a lock is underpowered by looking at the front. Maybe not large enough to contain heavy springs? It is supposed to be delivered here tomorrow so I will take better pics.
