I have been playing with the Indian wheelock for sa few days and I got a feel for its shortcomings. I decided to try my hand at building a simplified version. Seeing that the cock has to be placed on the wheel prior to shooting (yes it doesn’t drop as it should), I decided that on my version, I would have a manual pan cover that is swung away prior to shooting. Don’t beat me up too bad, but I just want a simple design.
 
Most of the early wheellocks have relatively simple mechanisms, if you want inspiration.

This one uses a flat spring as the sear assembly, and the trigger simply pushes up a dimple:

The pistol in the Royal Amouries has a different simple system, where the trigger piece blocks the wheel shaft from rotating:

This system wedges the sear out of the way:

Dear Tarawa. I doubt any one would' beat you up' for your altering the perceived failing with your lock a more ingenious improvement can hardy be a failing. its not an original .I think we Wheellock aficionados' will more praise your ingenuity .
