    TC Pennsylvania Hunter giving FITS

Thanks all. Like I said in my o.p., I can shoot groups less than half the size of my Pa Hunter with my flintlock Renegade. I don't do my best work with flintlocks, but I'm trying. Good groups with one rifle, but not others, would seem to indicate a load issue. Assuming no rifle issues. Both of...

TC Hawken rare stock? Experts please.

I have a laminated Hawken myself. Got it in new condition almost 3 years ago and she's an excellent rifle. By far and away, my most accurate sidelock. A bit visually curious to be sure, but very attractive. They are quite rare. Perhaps the rarest of the TC Hawkens. Paid $250 for mine. Was once...

    TC Pennsylvania Hunter giving FITS

Love the rifles! I have 2, but can't get them to shoot well or consistently. Tried .490 and .495 ball. Swaged and cast. Patches from .015 to .018, pre and home lubed ( mink oil). Swab between shots with spit, moose milk and rubbing alcohol. With and without over powder wad. Recovered patches are...

    Intervention please!

IF you can find a TC Pennsylvania Hunter (.50 caliber 32 inch 1-66 half round/octagonal barrel)flintlock you'll REALLY be done for! Decent barrel length, carries nicely, excellent accuracy and really is a very nice rifle. I'm unreasonably fond of mine.

who all uses peeps on their percussion guns.

ALL my rifles are aperture sighted. Flint, sidelock percussion , unmentionable and even the ones needing suppositories. Aperture sights predate firearms ( crossbows). How much older do you need? Fantastic sights. If modern appearing ones offend, then cobble up a field expedient or choose one of...

    Parker - Hale 1858

Well, it had to happen. Even my.luck can run out. Gave her another good cleaning and it revealed a rough section right at the ball seat... The shop took the rifle back. Good folks.

Look into my eye... That was an early kit too, with the "Cal .50" marking. Good fortune to ya

    Parker - Hale 1858

Here she is! Her bore cleaned up very nicely. No more crunch and no visible pits. Huzzah! But, the rifling is SO shallow! I can feel the effects of the progressive depth rifling, with a tight patch. But out to the muzzle, it seems barely there. I did a quick and nasty check with my calipers...

    Parker - Hale 1858

My favorite " Den of Iniquity" got me again... Got a first gen P58 for $650. Serial # 399x. Overall, I'd say she's an 85% rifle. A few stock dings and finish wear from cap blast. The metal is all excellent with nearly 100% bluing and a nice patina on the brass. The bore, so far, has patched...

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

Swab between shots to extinguish embers. Blowing on them is fanning them. Think campfire, not candle. Flinters, plug your vents to restrict airflow. If you don't swab... Using breath for keeping fouling soft is for bpcr's. Bounching butts on the ground? Bouncing rammers on loaded rifles...

    Whiskey TANGO...

Ok. I've had my share, perhaps more than my share, of flintlocks. CVAs, Traditions, Lymans, TCs, and even a fine custom flintlock. But none has made the impression, and shot nearly as well, as my TC Pennsylvania Hunter. Good looking rifle, but not much else to really set her apart. Yet I shoot...

Ignition problems with a T.C. Renegade

What nipple are you using? My Hawken was a misfiring fiend with Tresco nipples. They have an extremely narrow aperture. The problem lessened considerably after 40 or 50 shots. I use the same nipples in my unmentionable, without issue. Now, when Calico ( unmentionable)needs a new nipple, the old...

Range report. Peach is SUCH a good girl!

This is " Peach". I threw in pics of recovered patches. These are .015 prelubed Ox Yokes.I put a .54/.56 was overpowder. For whatever reason, I shoot Peach better than I've ever shot any flintlock. I've a couple rifle guns that were just meant to be mine. Peach is one of them.
