Shooting steel ball bearings out of a Pedersoli Bess

It may or may not be an idea my friend, But you could just go to the local sporting goods store and buy a bag of fishing sinkers and melt them down. Here in NY i can get lead free weights at just about everywhere...It wouldnt be the most econimcal but you said that you arent shooting alot...may...

    fouling a bore

clyde, as stated in the post this occurs when shooting from a clean bore. I cannot regulate the sights any further to compensate for the drop. I am using a bare ball over 20Ga wad with a 20ga card to keep evrything in place. i know I could get a tighter seal with a patch, but i dont want to use...

    fouling a bore

took my fowler to the range and really wrung the sweat out of it! shoots great, except for one thing. the first shot from a clean bore always shoots about 12 inches low at 30. this also occurs after wiping the bore during shooting but not as bad (maybe 8 inches or a little less). Any creative...

Octagon to round or swamped smoothbore

for what its worth I had a smooth rifle with a swamped barrel. I actually didnt like it. It was very heavy in the front, my new smooth rifle is tapered and it points , shoulders like a dream. I suppose it really depends on its use. If your going to hunt deer id say a swamped barrel is...

    Shenanodoah

I second this, also as a side note. in the past I have used filed down razor blades that were soldered to the back of the rear sight. they are cheap, easy to find and work great!

    smooth bore

IMO. the indian guns are functional. I ahve owned a couple. But , you need to keep your expectations in line with what you are buying. DO NOT expect pedersolli or current factory made quality. DO expect to possibly have to do some tinkering. Every curry gun ive owned has required lock work...one...

    3F in Pedersoli .54 Frontier

You made a good purchase for a first gun! they make a fine hunting rifle to be sure. I took this young buck with I believe 70gr, .530 ball using 3f powder.

    Bear Jerky

I was given about 50 lbs of fresh bear meat by a friend. I want to make some jerky. I know bear commonly contains the trichinosis round worm and absolutely must be cooked to an internal temp of 160. I want to dehydrate the meat then place in oven @ 200 deg for an hour...has anyone done this...

    Shooting High

I ahve a 20 bore fowler that had the barrel slightly bent for the previous owner. As a result the gun shoots rather high for me. so i replaced the front sight with a taller one. Now the gun shoots even higher? I ahve not changed the load, or anyother parameters. The only thing i can think of is...

    poor fizzen/pan fit

thanks all for the replies, Does anyone have a phone number or web address for him? Also as a temporary fix as deer season opens this weekend. I glued a very thin piece of leather to the bottom of the frizzen to seal the gap. seems to work just fine

I can see light across the whole span of the frizzen all t he way to t he frizzen screw! to my untrained eye it does not look like there is enough of the frizzen to file on...any advice id greatley appreciated. The lock was made by Larry Zorn

I think I will try the flat black for a temporary fix. I also have a fowler with a groove in the breech for sighting that could use some glare reduction lol. will let you know how it works . thanks for the ideas!

    tang screw reflection

I ahve a sighted fowler in 20ga. It has traditional low sights . I dont particularly care for low sights but im trying to make do. The one major problem I have is that I am getting light reflection from the head of the tang screw in my sight picture. Is there anything I can do to reduce...
