I looked at guns online at Middelsex village that a forum member recommended. They look pretty good and the price 's seem good. I'm looking at the Kirkland musket. How good are these guns, Are they better than pederosoli makes. Are they any good or are they junk. I like the idea of a smooth bore, that i can use as a shotgun and use a round ball for hunting. Thank's. :idunno:

My advice would be to use the Search function for "Indian Guns". There have been many debates on this subject. Middlesex sells Indian made guns. Some people think they are junk and some think they are an acceptable economic alternative.

uhhh.....NO

Thank's What do you think about the Pedersoli trade gun. Or what would be a good french or English trade gun for 700 to 1000 Dollors.

I do see used American Made "Trade-guns" in that price category, I would look into any local shooting clubs, ranges, contemporary long rifle gun shows, even modern gun shows, or post wanted adds on some of the message boards. With some dedicated research and a little patience you most likely would end up getting much more for your money going the used custom route.

the archives here are chock full of useful information.

Northstar west used to have a nice trade gun near $1000.00. I believe they have went up but I would search TOW etc fr one if you like them. I plan on owning one someday soon(?).

ANY pedersoli will be a tremendous upgrade from almost any Indian gun (IMHO). Kinda like should I drive a pinto or a Mustang to the dance.

IMO. the indian guns are functional. I ahve owned a couple. But , you need to keep your expectations in line with what you are buying. DO NOT expect pedersolli or current factory made quality. DO expect to possibly have to do some tinkering. Every curry gun ive owned has required lock work...one i ahd to have a modern lock fitted to it because the lock it has was such poor craftmanship it was not safe. I would personally use pedersolli as a starting point. you can usuaually find used pedersolli trade guns for about the same price as a curry gun and the quality is waaaaaaaaaay better... also think of resale... you will never...ever ... ever ...get even remotely close to what you pay for a curry gun if you sell it... you pay 700...they sell used for 400...so keep that in mind

Bryon, Thank you. The LOL, Curry gun's are off the table. I'll get something worth while to own.

clyd, Are you the official pc guy. Hope your just joking. I did think it was funny, didn't you.

Hunter12: Try to find a used CenterMark .62
cal smoothbore. They are American made and use the
R.E Davis FlintLock. CenterMark sold out to a
shop in upstate NY. Do a search for French Tule
muskets. You won't be disappointed. I've had mine
for twenty five years and never had a problem.
Stay away from the Indian made JUNK.

You should be advised that Pedersoli doesn't make all their models to the same standards. I have a Pedersoli trade gun, and the frizzen was improperly hardened, PLUS the ramrod thimbles were pinned so shallow in the stock that they broke free when the ramrod was replaced the first time....not to mention they are even farther away from authentic than the Pedersoli Bess is for F&I War.

If you're going to drop a grand on a Pedersoli, I'd suggest a Bess, or save some money in your pocket, and get a Blue Ridge Hunter.

:surrender: As I Have Asked Has any one heard any more info on Pedersoli making a s/s flint that was to come out this year. They showed some s/s info last year. :idunno:
