Well I've been getting a little bit done. I got my barrel from Colrain and got the breech plug installed and the tang cut and formed. Also draw filed the barrel flats today. The doner kit I'm starting with is a percussion kit. I tried to get a flint lock from tradition's for this rifle but they...
I shoot grouse and rabbits with my 50 cal Traditions Kentucky flinter loaded with shot. I actually use a 50 cal sabot on top of 35 Gr 2F, then I add in a lee powder scoop full of #6 shot (150 grains worth).I top it with a felt wad and Bob's your uncle. If it works for rabbits and grouse it...
Do you get them to round using a rasp or do you use some other method. I need to make one for my smoothbore project and thought I’d start with my dowel maker for arrows then narrow it from there with a rasp.
Just with a milling machine for new front site on an unmentionable after I cut the barrel back and recontoured it. I have a bit of scrap material I can do a trial on.

Awesome instructions! I'll give her a go. I have an octagon barrel, just round the last 4" at the muzzle so I have a flat to work off! That should make lining them up easier.
I have Rosin Core solder. Looking at plain solder it looks like its more lead. I can get 50/50 at the box store Canadian Tire, just my local one doesn't have any. Will have to wait until I go to the big city!
That was my initial thoughts was to square it off, but the butt is pretty thin and not sure how it would turn out? Looked at Fowler butt plates at Track and they’re all considerably bigger than my butt stock.
