    P-H 2 band Enfield

Did the original Parker Hale 2 band Enfields have gain twist progressive depth rifling? There is one on GB that looks to be unfired with original box and papers. My understanding is that these were better than the three band Enfields because of the rifling. A re-enactor friend isn't interested...

Help needed designing .62 cal percussion rifle

If I may offer some advice? I'd not use that buttplate on a large caliber thumper. I'd use an English style, wide, flat and high or musket style. You don't want a skinny deep curve that fits on your arm but one that fits on your shoulder shotgun style. But that's me. You might be able to handle...

What is the oddest lead item you've made ammunition from?

Back in the 70's my wife's aunt belonged to a small church in the SW corner of Pa. near the West Va. line. When it was torn down lead from the pipe organ was melted into small ingots and marked West Side Methodist Church pipe organ . Aunt Grace had several that she gave to me. I kept one for...

    SideXside 12 gauge

Early Navy Arms SxS were made by Pietta, latest ones made by Pedersoli. I have an early Pietta gun, very well made except for the bridles made of cheap alloy. I made a new one for the left lock when it broke, one of these days will make one for the right before it breaks. Strange, because right...

    Walnut stocks

Amen. Any one who has a Maple tree in their yard can attest to the prolific nature of the species. I have 3 and the yard right now is covered with "helicopters" to the point you can't hardly see the grass. In a week I'll have at least a dozen sprouting around the yard. In the woods they crowd...

    Buying A Used MuzzleLoader.

Years ago I knew a gentleman who continually referred to our guns as "musket loaders". He didn't own one but that didn't stop him from pontificating about the use and usefullness of them. I figured it wasn't worthwhile trying to disabuse him of his ignorance of the subject and avoided him...

    Coffee or Tea?

Lapsang Souchow for me, with sugar. I first heard about it when I read Michener's Centennial. Has a smoky flavor, have to find a specialty tea shop to buy it. Not very common. Also like Earl Grey.

    Minnie ball accuracy?

"BTW, "Beagling" is a term used on a cast bullet forum, not sure where it comes from." IIRC, Beagle is a member of the Cast Boolit forum and was the one who came up with this method of enlarging a mold.

    Shaping a powder horn...

Going back even further in history the Romans, during their occupation of Britain, referred to the raiders from Hibernia ( Ireland ) as Scotii. These Scotii later emigrated to Caledonia ( Scotland ) and displaced the native Picts, the Painted People. The Scotii called their native land Eire...

    Shaping a powder horn...

Aye, Scotch is a bonnie drink. My mothers family (Harper) is Scots. A sept of Clan Buchanan from the Argyle district. I've made a couple of flat horns using a deep fryer with hot oil. Now if I could just find a Murdoch pistol with engraved frame I'd be a happy camper.

The flat horn is often associated with the Scots. Here's some examples. https://houseoflabhran.net/product/scottish-victorian-silver-mounted-powder-horn-snuff-mull/ http://germaniainternational.com/Images4/DecorativePowderHorn-05.jpg

    Ruger old army questions?

Found this on the Ruger Forum...."Ruger did make some Old Army's with brass super blackhawk dragoon style gripframes. They generally had wide smooth triggers and if you look under the grips it should have the letters/numbers MR3-BD cast near the bottom of the grip frame on the interior webbing...

How to solder on a ramrod thimble

I had rib and thimble problems with a half stock rifle I built last summer. The first time the rib and both thimbles were done together and looked good.....for a week. Then the rib came loose. My fault, I forgot to tin the rib along with the barrel before soldering them. I cleaned everything up...

    Ruger old army questions?

After seeing the picture, it looks like some one put the brass old model SBH Dragoon frame on the ROA. Looks great! Even better than the Dragoon grip frame of the SBH is the Bisley grip frame. I have one on a .45 Colt Blackhawk and its better than the stock frame. I wish I still had the ROA...

    Ruger old army questions?

I put a new model Super Blackhawk grip frame on a ROA but you have to make a filler block to fit behind the trigger in the cut in the guard. A hole is then drilled in the block to hold the trigger return spring. It's doable with hand tools.

    Replaced sites.

If you have to file your sights, this table might help to determine how much to file. I use a depth mike to measure height above barrel but the slide on a pair of dial calipers works just as well.....Shoot a group, figure out how much adjustment is needed, then measure between your sights and...
