Senior moment what is GB?

Cannons were often loaded with a projectile made to explode on impact. How were these projectiles fused? How was time delay determined?

My first cannon loads were double layer aluminum foil as recommended. Later I found one layer was good enough. I haven't had a foil fowling problem since with that single layer load.
