Small game- .32 cal vs smoothbore

At my house "RED" is refered to as the $500 squirrel; while packing pine cones in her engine block he chewed through my trucks wiring harness for the coolant temperature sensor . It's only a $60 part and "easy" to install yourself according to my research at the time; directions all basically...

    4 pound buck fox squirrel

And, the older they are Nate; the last fox squirrel I shot was a heavy old bugger that shook the ground when he fell. I started skinning him right away and was arm sore and ready for a nap by the time I got his hide off.

Great plains trade rifle or used TC Renegade

Walk, When she shoots good and looks like that I prefer to call them "freckles"; if she don't shoot no good then they are "pits."

    Set triggers spooking game?

Just to prove that I don't mind being the butt of a story, I will tell you a tale of years ago. My brother and I were afield for deer with our T/C Hawken rifles one day. We met up about mid woodlot on the farm we were hunting and were exchanging reports of the mornings hunt when suddenly I spot...

    Speer balls

The only round ball that I ever remember recovering from game was a Speer .490 that I shot into a whitetail six point at 8 yards (had to let him walk away a little as he passed by me at arms length). Hit him behind the shoulder, passed across the top of the heart and flattened to .82 just under...

    Who got the bunny?

Reminds me of my youthful years when we did alot of bunny hunting in the farm country of northern Ohio. My cousin was fond of dressing his kills right away and would just twist the heads off before skinning and dressing. One opening day as we got set to head out my cousin comments that his coat...

Neither rain, nor snow, nor blah blah.

The boss ordered a glass shower door assembly a couple of weeks back. Last week the Fed Ex truck pulls up one day and the driver has box 2of3 (the fixed side panel of glass); the driver says, "That's all they put on my truck." The next day the same truck/driver pulls up with box 1of3 (the glass...

I'm really tired of this nonsense...

Not in my closet, shed and garage; accept I'm pretty sure I don't have one of whatever they are biting the next time I get out.

Shooting 45 cal ball in a 50 cal muzzleloader

Interesting question. I've never tried it, but, I'd be surprised if nobody has. My guess would be that the integrity of the patch material could be vital to good performance. My other guess is that the rifle would probably shoot the lighter/smaller ball to a different point of impact. Another...

    New to me lyman GPR

If she is really accurate and you do your part I'm pretty sure that the deer won't laugh at you because she shreds a patch or two. At this point I'd say that shredding patches is a characteristic of your rifle; if she loses her accuracy that would be a problem.

Can a Muzzleloading Rifle Be Built Complete In A Week?

Looks like the Rubik's Cube of muzzleloading. Dare ya to reload that without dry balling at least once.

    Parrot Vise

Did you try eating a cracker to settle your stomach? Afterall, they say "Poly want a cracker."

    Thompson trio

Really guys? The only safe bet on this name theme is to name them all the same name; of course a female name for traditions sake. To do otherwise is to risk the following: You have a battery of beautiful and very accurate rifles. Then one day while carressing one you call her by the wrong...

    .530 or .535 round ball

Pedersoli has a load data sheet on their website with recommended loads and ball sizes for their varios models; if you peruse it you will notice that it includes patch thickness recommendations, and that for .54 caliber they recommend 0.010 for a patch. You could try .530 and thicker patch...

Wife says I have a problem

I hope that your assessment of her statement is correct. If I were you I'd be a little worried; I'd be thinking that there is at least a 50/50 chance that when she said, "You got a problem.", that she was actually talking to herself. You see, if you or I have a problem, and we do, it's a...

    TC Barrel mark

It is one of the common barrel marks that I have seen besides Maltese cross and Spade marks. Don't know for sure what it means; my guess is that it is an in-house manufacturing mark that T/C used.

    Barrel serial number question

Is the barrel 31" long? If so, from the T/C catalog No. 15 copyright 1988 ; page 32: "Due to popular demand, Thompson/Center is now offering accessory barrels for the Hawken and Renegade series in what is commonly known as THE ROUND BALL TWIST (1-66")."........ The wording, "is now offering"...

    Fire Danger?

Years ago when my Aunt/Uncle had a farm I had the bright idea of building a deer blind out of hay bales to hunt with my ML. Now I know that the next part of this story is kinda unbelieveable, but, possibly due to my procrastinating manner, it actually occured to me BEFORE building such a blind...

    The Curse Of The Sprue

An interesting topic; it reminds me of a past experience dealing with round projectiles and their failure to hit the intended target. Please forgive the reference, but, the projectile in question was a golf ball. A friend who hosted an annual golf gathering/tournament announced one year at the...
