Barrel serial number question

I have a t/c hawken 45cal 1/66 ball barrel only
serial number # 2097 how can i find how old it is
i guess i can post here -new member thankyou bob knab -

With a 4 digit number it's gonna be a really early one.
All the serial number manufacture dates at TC were destroyed in a fire - no help there and nobody I have ever found has a valid date register.

Is that a flint lock? That’s a pretty old # I’m trying to date mine it’s in the mid 8s,.percussion cap

What about a percussion .50 cal in the mid 8s im thinkn around the 70s? Any idea

Is the barrel 31" long?
If so, from the T/C catalog No. 15 copyright 1988 ; page 32:
"Due to popular demand, Thompson/Center is now offering accessory barrels for the Hawken and Renegade series in what is commonly known as THE ROUND BALL TWIST (1-66")."........
The wording, "is now offering", suggests to me that this is a new product line.
FYI this catalog also has a center card mailer announcing Fox Ridge Outfitters as their New Custom Shop.

Thompson Center began making the Hawken rifle in 1970 and with a serial number in the low 2000's I would guess the gun was made in the first or second year of production so the answer is, 1970 or 1971.

There was a thread posted here somewhere. Many T/C owners have posted serial numbers and dates when purchased.

this barrel is 32" as i measure it but could be 31" where to where
it was given to me as a gift by a friend of some time ago who has
now gotten dead the barrel has never used it does have a installed
a globe front sight and a black fiberglass rod the barrel stamped
= ROUND BALL - TWIST 1: 66 =
my buddy was as you might say ,a real gun nut ,and would
factory order all kinds of gun stuff , i am happy i am not like that

this is not a flintlock it is a caplock barrel - my buddy who gave to me would buy all kinds of
gun stuff gust to look at one time he had a loaded BAR displayed in in his bedroom
so he could look at it before he went to sleep at night - thanks bob

People like that are perfectly legal in doing things like that - but those are the kind that scare folks like us......

I don't make a habit of breaking into or trespassing on other peoples property.
I do keep loaded weapon(s) in my house as well.
I don't make a habit out of displaying them though. That does not seem a very bright idea.
Keeping a loaded weapon like that in plain site makes it really easy for the thief that does break in when no one is home to take the good stuff without any effort.
I also don't have the need to lovingly admire my self defense weapon while I go to sleep either.
Those kind of people that scare me..............

I have a similar question regarding a CVA. I recently got a .58 cal CVA percussion rifle with a 32 inch barrel, 66 pitch and a serial number of 000220. Any ideas as to who made these early barrels and about what year? Always thanking you in advance for your help and shared knowledge.

That low is probably a early 1970s rifle. I have a kit gun purchased around 1975 with a K5XXX number. I think a number of finished guns were produced before the kits were offered.

If it has no k in number ,does that indicate factory finished gun ?

Yes. The K prefix to the serial number means the gun/barrel is a kit gun with regards to the TCs. No K is a factory finished one.

Guns other than TC did not have a K designator. At least the ones I know of.
