    Lyman touch hole too high???

I wipe down the outside with gun oil, I run an oiled patch down the bore after cleaning. I also had black gooey patches that would NEVER clean out when I was using bore butter, I don't know what it's from. I got rid of the bore butter and use crisco on patches now. cleans up alot better now...

Got a New T/C Hawken today....

You might try aging the brass, that will give it used look, I only have one rifle with brass furniture and I have never cleaned it in 20 yrs. I do prefer the look of iron though.

    58 cal

I bought that exact rifle in 1982? does yours have the chrome bore? Since I got mine, I have replaced the barrel with a Green mtn. .54 slow twist, and installed a brass buttplare. It was a good shooter with the .58 though. I paid $155.00 back then, new.

1" Barrel, Extended Range RB Rifle

The bigger the ball the faster it will drop, trying to get it fast enough to compensate for drop may become punishing. Check a roundball ballistics chart, it may help you decide which way to go. I have a slow-twist 62 cal that is never going to be a long range rifle, I would probably be leaning...

    Cleaning brass without harming wood

I like the old, used, aged look. I never polish my brass.

Would that really ruin a rifle?

I have an original 1864 type 2 .58 cal. Springfield, I can't see how any mud or dirt would permanatly harm it. I agree with the statement that "ruined" meant something else in that time frame.

    Pedersoli Tryon Rifle

You are correct, the 45 and 50 are 1-21 or 1-48, I was not paying attention to your post when you said .54. That is one of the more desirable models, enjoy it.

    Problems with TVM fowler vent.

Don't like the vent, don't like the inletting, don't like the barrel taper, Sell it and get something you like. It's still worth alot of money used.

    Barrel Concerns

Before we recomend a charge, What is the twist? Minnie's or maxi's need a faster twist, If you have a 1-60 or slower, stick with a ball.
