Uberti vs Pietta, Not the same old, same old.....This could be news.

Nice tour of their factory. I like that there is still recognition of the need for skilled worker input to provide a good product. It was nice to see that the gentleman giving the tour seemed to actually know what he was talking about and was proud of the guns he was producing. Thanks for...

All of this misinformation is really getting old

Anyone else remember how difficult page selection became once ya got down to those choices? How times have changed. Used to get your reading, writing, basic biology (including previously mentioned catalog supplement and observation of local fauna such as spiders flies and snakes), financial...

Frequent misfires with my kentucky pistol

Farm supply stores generally carry 99% isopropyl alcohol. I don't use it specifically for cleaning but do use it to make sure all the water is out of the barrel as part of the cleaning process.

Is loading from the flask really that dangerous???

Lawn Darts (Plumbata) Served the Roman Legions for centuries and provided us 50's kids with immediate feedback on our judgement, perception, decision making and martial skills.

    Rig-is it good stuff

As with above posts, I've been using one small jar for decades. I've left a small folded square of flannel in the jar to apply when needed. Just found a huge 8oz jar at an auction so I'm set for the next 320 years based on current usage. I've never used it for anything except rust prevention.

    FFFF

I'm lazy. I use whatever is in the horn depending on the rifle I'm using. Ive ground 2Fg/3Fg for 4Fg priming (and didn't blow up and just left it at that). I do have the required pound of 4Fg from when I started with flinters but will not live long enough to use it up unless I start rolling...

Just ordered a Lyman GPR Kit

GPR can be good shooter, trigger can be replaced with R.E. Davis Deerslayer, if needed IIRC. Agree with book mentioned above, well worth it. The why's as important as the how's. TOW/Tom Fuller flints. I use same powder in pan as main charge (lazy) FFg for .54 cal and FFFg for .50 cal. You can...

    Patches-pillow ticking ...

I always leave in strips so I've got tourniquet material for after I cut patch at the muzzle.. or after wiping the rain off my flint.

    Dry Firing Your Flintlock?

I always use a wooden flint for "dry firing", it saves on flint and frizzen both.

    Priming with main charge powder

I own a can of ffffg (it's required isn't it?) but it will last me at least a lifetime. I usually prime with whatever I use for the main charge. A millisecond or two ignition time is a long way down the list of my marksmanship problems.

    Bees Wax uses and recipes

I've made needle cases etc. from river cane. I've always used similar plugs, made from leather (waxed) with strings to the river cane case so I don't lose them. I like the hemp/beeswax idea.

    Ramrod use

I think a thinner patch like Walmart pillow ticking perhaps.. take your mic with you but IIRC it used to run about .017 or so.. search the forum "articles" for Stumpys Moose Juice and Moose Snot lube recipes (all the other suggestions are great as well). I haven't been able to find split hickory...

    Polishing the flash pan...

Last pan that I polished, I used little pieces of 600 grit wet-or-dry silicon carbide abrasive paper and a pencil with rounded eraser chucked in a variable speed DeWalt drill. I think I did use a Dremel with a soft felt tip and rouge for final polish. Polished it to make it easier to clean but...

    Backstop ideas ??

I hang some AR500 plates (I use for BP and for other non-BP), 12"x12" inside old tires (opened eye bolts through the plate corners and eye bolts through the tire to hang it from old swing set), it catches a large percentage of the lead, fine splatter and remains of the ball (not my idea, saw it...

    GPR flint setup help

If you are going to get the T/C hammer, be sure to buy the Top Jaw and Jaw Screw as well. They are different sizes than the GPR uses. It takes about 2 weeks to get the parts delivered. T/C Part numbers: Hammer 51015630 Top Jaw 51015700 Top Jaw Screw 51165680 You may have to do some fitting of...

Minimum Charge for lyman GPR with patent chamber

I've used as low as 30gr of 2F or 3F in my .54 GPR flinter when bunny hunting or plinking and it has worked well for me.

Leaf Spring Bowie that I made

Good job on your knife. Hope you had as much fun fun making it, and in making it from "stuff laying around" as many of us have done over the years.

Leaf Spring Bowie that I made

I agree. Over 35 yrs of blacksmithing I've learned the hard way that there are reasons old springs are thrown away. I've sure used them alot but I have had tools, competantly forged and appropriatly heat treated that.. just failed.. sometimes catastrophically. If you're dinking around it may not...
