    French Hunting Sword

Matt Easton of the YouTube channel Scholagladatoria would probably know. He's an antique swords dealer.

    Is it LOADED?

It was a long time ago so I don't remember the details, but I was at a range working on a flinter I knew was loaded so it was pointed down range. I pulled the trigger to check the function with an empty pan, and it fired. Shocked me but no harm done.

    Cleaning

A lot depends on where you live. I save real BP for my flinters and shoot Pyrodex in my cap guns. I'm a believer in same day cleaning, but some how it's usually 2 or 3 days before I get to it. I do use Ballistol soaked patches after shooting though. I live in Colorado where the humidity is...

what is a good all-around nipple wrench

I've used the little TC one for years. Track of the Wolf has excellent ones in various sizes. That's what I would buy today.

    Need help with nipple size

Take your nipple to Ace Hardware. They have a device in the section that sells screws etc that you can test it on.

    Tomahawk advice

There is an old but not very good trick to tighten handles by soaking them in water. It works but the water evaporates and it's loose again. If you use BLO it works and doesn't evaporate. I suspect this is the same for kerosene.

    Tomahawk advice

The general difference between a tomahawk and a hand axe is that tomahawks have slide in from the top handles. Axes big or small have wedged handles

Thimble fell off traditions Trapper pistol. How can I fix it?

I really hate using glue on a gun, but the thimble fell off one of my pistols, and I unsuccessfully tried to solder it on. JB weld worked great.

    Storing flintlocks

I do the same, but in Europe they are displayed in museums at least with the hammer back and frizen closed.

    T/C Hawken load info

All good advice here. Every BP gun is different. 2 TC Hawkin rifles might like different loads. After much experimenting mine likes 60 gr by volume 2F with a 20 thousandth patch and 490 ball. Yours might prefer 50 or 70 gr with a 10 thousandth patch and 495 ball. Lube also makes a difference...

Wedge stuck on an 1851 Navy

Track of the Wolf sells a brass punch that is flat and just the right size to fit through the wedge slot. It also works for drifting sights.

    Touchhole liner

Totally agree. Unfortunately ignition hasn't been so good lately. I built the gun in 1981 and it worked great until it didn't. Trying to figure what went wrong without pulling the breech plug. I put it is so I know I can get it out at least.

Convince me not to buy this 1860 old silver army

I disagree that it takes a lot to set off a cap with the hammer down on it. My '51 Navy won't let me cock the hammer with it down on a cap. I've played around with it a bit and a light tap with a little rawhide mallet is all it takes.

    Touchhole liner

I've been thinking about putting a touchhole liner in my flinter. I installed the barrel a tiny bit too far forward so the touchhole is right against the breechplug so part of the liner would be against the threads of the breechplug. Will this cause a problem or should I just forget it?

    30 Year Old Black Powder

The thing about black powder is that it isn't a compound which is one chemical that can change composition. It's simply a mixture of charcoal, sulpher, and kno3 or saltpeter as it used to be known. Those 3 things are all stable.

People overestimate how often percussion revolvers were reloaded...

My understanding is that the 2 piece conversion cylinders weren't used with Colts but were with Remingtons.
