    NIPPLES

The only seized nipples I experienced were on new guns. I’ve broke one of those cheap Traditions wrenches on them. I used a few different anti-seize greases but I’ve tried a little Ballistol and that seemed fine also. Nipples get pulled within a couple hours of use without any trouble.

    1st chain fire

In the first video, the guy was able to force a chain fire on the first try(?) by using much smaller balls. This was confirmed by Blackie’s experience and his view that this type can set off multiple chambers. I wonder if there is a video forcing cap chain fires by only capping and firing one...

Round ball size for .720 cylinder bore

Thanks … when I actually measured the nominal cylinder bore of .720 it turned out to be .715. Thus the .715 balls I bought were indeed too tight for a reason. Some would Drop in & others would get stuck a bit an inch or so down. I didn’t want to enter the stuck ball thread crowd so I figure a...

    1st chain fire

Interesting to me as both a percussion Sharps Carbine & Remington / Colt revolver shooter is that in discussing Sharps there is often talk about the convoluted fire path from the nipple to the powder and the problems with ignition of the charge. The Sharps uses musket caps with plenty of...

    Loose front dovetail sight

Thanks … plenty of good stuff … I must have dropped the gun while it was in its padded case, probably in the car, and didn’t even notice it happening .

    Loose front dovetail sight

Would you take the sight out of the dovetail to do this first part?

    Loose front dovetail sight

I noticed the front dovetail sight on a Pedersoli Remington 1858 Target revolver is loose. Leaving aside any comments on this particular gun or Pedersoli , does anyone have any solutions they’ve used with this sort of problem. The blade just floats out to the left or back to what looks like...

    1st chain fire

After taking a shot in a Remington 1858, I’ve seen cast balls of what I thought was .454 dislodge and move forward far enough that the cylinder wouldn’t turn for the next shot. I stopped using those balls, thinking all discussion about where chain fires are likely to start aside, this seemed...

    Pedersoli Sharps 1859 Carbine Issues

I have not had that experience at all. I use the Hahn tubes with hair curler paper at the breech end with virtually 100% success. My cartridges fit flush to the breech plate. I started with a new gun however & really clean the block thoroughly after each trip as well as freeing the chamber...

    Home made cap residue

I have the tool that’s called an 11 , It fits both pretty good especially because it often uses aluminum soda cans which is bendable …I see they do now offer a 10 but this is the first I’ve seen it. The 11 works on Slixshot, Treso , stock Uberti & Ped shotgun ..

    Home made cap residue

I was testing a gun I modified using different caps to see if they fired on the first strike. I included home made caps in my testing. I made a batch of prime all caps using a single roll cap to help hold in the powder so I could not tell the difference between caps that were made only with...
