I load revolvers from the flask also, maybe I shouldn't but then I ride a bike with no helmet, don't always fasten my seatbelts, run with scissors, etc.

I've had a few of those with my old Uberti Remington over the years and wondered what happened to the ball. Now I see there isn't much force behind it when that happens, the ball probably ended up on the ground next to me. It's not a big deal or that much to worry about.

I bought a new Uberti 36 cal. last year and really like it. The wood they use for the grips is sort of plain but the rest of the finish is great. It has a dovetailed front sight which was too tall- they need to be filed down to whatever suits you.

Is it a Remington (like Jappo's picture above)?

If a gun shoots high, you usually have to lower the rear sight or raise the front sight. Lowering the front sight should have made it shoot higher.

I have seen a few percussion caps for sale, haven't seen any primers for sale for a very long time.

If the army had issued them to the cavalry during the civil war, or if Matt Dillon had carried one on Gunsmoke there would probably be some reproductions made. I suppose we are lucky there are any cap and ball guns available at all.

Stan, you probably did have a chain fire. I've had a few of them, and wasn't entirely sure of what happened either. It's not very noticable, but it does seem strange to think the ball could come out and would have to rub along the frame and not make more "commotion".

I'm sure it could be gotten apart and repaired somewhat, but if the bore (the inside of the barrel) is badly rusted it's probably not worth the trouble. Don't throw it away just yet.

I haven't been able to find any for sale. This "out of stock" on everything is getting old. Maybe it's time to find a new hobby- golf - picture puzzles -knitting or something.

Having the right length is important. Maybe those were too long.
