    Here's some mischief

Now Bill, real men don't need no stinkin' tiller, they jam their thumb in that socket and then touch her off --- or so I'm told. Goodluck, buddy, I'm very glad you got it, finally, and hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

SOLD - Pending funds Lyman Trade Rifle .50 with peep sights

FWIW just my opinion but it gives me the willies when I see a nice gun resting in hooks fastened to a rough brick and mortar wall.

Original 36 cal SB pistol, min charge?

If it has a patent breech then be sure to use enough powder so that when the prb is seated it's against the powder w/o any void between them. I recently read somewhere, probably on this forum, that a good starting charge for a pistol is half the caliber, so for a .36, 18 grains would be about...

Combo hand gonne matchlock & boarding axe

Flint, is that a more recent mod to a plain jane handgonne or is it in the condition as made way back in the day? If it's original, from what period of time? That seems like a mod that could easily be done. Very interesting to me.

What’s Your Favorite Long Gun that You own.

Well, you did say long gun. Yes, I know somebody will soon top this, but I can take it! :)

    Long shot-1982 stock carver

Sorry, but the only tiny bit of info that I have, that might give someone else a shred more to go on to help you, is that it was then called Silver Dollar City. We moved from that area the last day of the '82 Worlds Fair. Hope you succeed in your quest.

    Unbeatable bore rust

I can't expound on how it works, but the diluted molasses reaction against the rust is called chelation. I can say that diluted molasses from the grocery store worked just fine for me. I didn't clean a rifle bore but it made a heavily rusted miniature sewing machine look terrific. Every speck of...

    Cane Cannon

Really cool. What's the purpose of the hole near the muzzle?

    Pistol

I don't know exactly what you have, but it sure is neat! If it's in shooting condition you might want to bring it out of mothballs and go to lead ones. Just don't poke your eye out when loading!;) If you get to shooting it you might try the monthly postal shooting match. If you miss with a...

    Shipping Blackpowder and caps?

Unfortunately I can't help solve your dilemma. It certainly is a shame that a US citizen of one state has to jump through hoops and ask these questions to try to figure out how to legally do this merely to hunt in another state. These are very sad times for us. I hope you find a workable solution.

    Derringer barrels

Here's an interesting take on why the rifling. Go to LME's #11 post in the Pre-Flintlock section under Matchlock x accuracy.

National Escargot Day is May 24 - Let's Shoot Some Snails

@PK hey, do you want to swap target pistols? I'll throw in a handful of 000 buck shot.

    Derringer barrels

I can't speak about any other 19th century pocket pistol maker other than Henry Deringer, but he purchased rifle barrels from other manufacturers, cut them to length as needed, and then gave them his secret acid bath pickling to impart his unique faux Damascus finish. So for him, it might have...

    Derringer barrels

Another possible reason they were rifled could be a safety factor. Consider that many men and women carried Deringers and other pocket pistols as a concealed carry option. Lots of them were not gun savvy people and they knew little about gun safety, specifically that the patched ball needed to...

    Got a new toy!!

    Outstanding, what an acquisition!

    Derringer barrels

They were rifled to help wring the most accuracy possible from a handgun with a very short distance between whatever sights they had. The very same principle carries over into todays snubnose revolvers.

National Escargot Day is May 24 - Let's Shoot Some Snails

Hi everybody, an old guy newbie jumping in this months snail race. Thought I'd slug it out (booooo!) with a real target pistol :) . I'm pretty happy with that fiver.

    LEST WE FORGET !!!

In Flanders fields . . . Thank you to ALL who served for their service. Some gave all, all gave some. I miss you, dad who served during WWII and my grandpa, his father, who served in the SOS in WWI, was gassed and died before I was born.
